I got mine about a week before Christmas maybe two weeks. Actually, on Black Friday, I bought a double power M7088 android tablet, because I had heard that I could maybe get Darwin installed into it which is the basis of Apple's iOS.
Well I had it for a couple weeks and I could not root it, I tried and I tried and none of the regular programs for rooting the rockchip chipsets... which is what that was, could do it.
One program actually installed a whole bunch of Chinese... I wasn't malware, but it was just... there was a lot of it and I couldn't read it and I couldn't figure out how to use it because it was supposed to be a rooting program for droid, but I was able to figure out how to install unsigned packages which at least droid allows you to do that without being rooted so I was able to install the VLC the nightly build?
So I was actually happy with it it was 1.6 GHz A7 cortex ARM processor, and it ran the programs okay, it was relatively fast but it had that damn capacitive touch screen. So you would have to tap it a couple of times just to get it to respond and then if you ever had to tap and hold to drag and drop an icon it would just do I'll kinds of crazy things.
Well anyway I had indicated to my brother that I was just buying this for myself because I had extra money this month. But he went ahead and hinted that I should get an iPad, I told him I wouldn't be able to make any payments on one or try to save it up enough to get one for a few months. And the last thing he said was he would talk to his wife about it and I just said well maybe he'll lend me the money to buy one.
So about 10 days later at the in-laws Christmas party where like all of the in-laws of my sister-in-law and her sisters gathered at a huge mansion in Coronado California, He gives me this iPad mini A1434 sleet version, 16 GB.
Well I had a fit it's great I love it it's not even a retina version so it kind of hurts my eyes but it's fast, and then I jailbroke it on the 22nd? when the jailbreak was released and so far I restored it five times. When I first got it it was brand-new out-of-the-box and when I activated it and got my identity and there it only had 8 GB free out of the 16 GB memory chip.
I just thought oh well maybe 8 GB is being used by iOS 7. But my friend in Canada said that was not right, so I should restore it which I did because I really didn't have anything on it yet so after I restored it I gained about 6 GB I eventually had 13.2 GB total.
So right now I don't really have many modifications into it because the mobile substrate which is the basis of all modifications with which inject more code into already running processes, is not upgraded to work in iOS 7 yet. But one of the guys at the Reddit jailbreak sub Reddit found a way to change the order of the jailbreak while it boots so that it loads mobile substrate at a different time and then it worked after that.
So now I've just been using VLC remote to watch my videos, VLCStreamer to watch a videos that are on my Computer on my iPad, and I applied a theme that makes the entire device look like a Star Trek personal access data device a.k.a. PADD.
Actually somebody was selling a theme in the Apple Store about two years ago for iPads, which made a regular iPad look exactly like a Star Trek PADD. But I suppose CBS could not have that so they sued whoever made it and was selling it, just making more trek fans pissed off. As usual.
Anyway to make a short story long, I've been able to tether my iPad to my iPhone using a tethering program called tether me, and because it is through the Bluetooth and not Wi-Fi my carrier can't detect that I'm actually using a personal hotspot, which the tether me program cracks open. Usually when you press the "personal hotspot" button on an Apple device, it just opens up a message that informs you that you need to call your carrier. When I was on AT&T I even tried to do that, I called them to ask them how do I get this opened up and they hung up on me stupid idiots. I supposed to get that opened up they need to try to sell you another service that you don't need.
Well I love this thing I'm sorry I went on so long about it I just love Apple products I wish there was a way that I could do dual booting on these things- that I wonder how Windows runs on it I wonder how Linux runs on it. A couple of years ago there was a legal modification that would allow you to choose android as the default operating system on an iPhone.
Not that I ever would've seriously used it like that, but I just love messing around with stuff. I posted this entire message using the iOS windows eight forums app and our lovely assistant Siri.
