Thank you whs, I'll consider that. But why is the FX chip cheaper than the Phenom X4 chip?

Pricing is very often disconnected from the techical capabilities. It is a matter of competitiveness. There are some more Fx (Bulldozer) CPUs on Newegg that you might want to explore. Just search for AMD Bulldozer in Newegg.

You may also look at some of the performance comparisons on the web. I would have linked some but here I get mainly German sites.

From what I read, the Intels seem to be faster. But maybe you are like me - I am an AMD fan.

If you really want, you can go with the new 8-core Zambezi (linked below). It doesn't look half bad and it's the top of the range AMD chip but be warned it performs the same as an i5-2500k if not slightly worse. AMD themselves say that the make processors particularly the new Bulldozer chips to sell, not perform.
Newegg.com - AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz 8MB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache Socket AM3+ Eight-Core Desktop Processor

16GB RAM is completely and utterly pointless. Unless you're planning on playing 6 different games at the same time, while video editing and using virtual machines, 8GB is more than enough. Rather than getting 16GB 1333Mhz RAM, get 8GB 1600Mhz. You can save some money and get a bit more speed while you're at it. If 8GB turns out to be not enough, you can always buy some more. I would recommend something like this. Not only is it 1600Mhz, it also has very low timings in case you want to overclock.

Rather than the NZXT case, I would go for something like the CoolerMaster HAF X. It has very good airflow providing for excellent cooling. The HAF X is one of the best cases you can get cooling wise and it's quite big too so you shouldn't have to worry about not being able to fit the components.

Lastly, I would definitely look at getting a Noctua fan over CM, NZXT or AeroCool. They make undisputed the best case fans once you can get over the horrible colour they use.

Well, that's my two cents.

I have looked at the 8 core chips, I might make more adjustments.

As for my NZXT case, I'm keeping it, I've had much luck with my old NZXT case that I had since 03 and its still going strong even after I gave it away.

As for cooling fans. A fan is a fan. Detailing is what I'm after. I've heard good things about all companies you have listed. However, while AeroCool make great fans, their performance line is much to be desired in my books, when on a fan controller the bearings expired quickly.

Also, I have a thing for LEDs, Lights, ect. ect. The more the better. I also have looked at the CM X and that case just doesn't stand out to me.

I for some reason also have an obsession with clear / transparent fans.

Sure thing. ;)

But don't be afraid to try out new brands and models. You might overlook one brand to find out later that it trumps your product both performance and quality-wise.

But I'd have to disagree on the 'fan is a fan' comment. They are more or less the 'same' sort of thing, but then there's so many more factors that influence a fan's performance. I mean, there's the size, rotational speed, airflow etc. On top of that, you should (when possible) go with the most reputable brand. For instance, take a look at my PSU. It's a SHAW 1500w. They make just about the worst power supplies on the market and yet I know people who would still buy it over a Corsair 850w simply because of the higher wattage. More reputable brand means in most cases, a better product.

Corsair is a big name everywhere. The only downside to their great products is that you have to pay a 25% premium just for the brand name. You can pretty much get the same quality from G.Skill for 3/4 of the price. But with things like power supplies, Corsair is definitely the way to go.

And do you mean my 'New Build' thread? Yeah, I put it over on SF. There's where I started anyway and I figured I'd get more replies over there. I was right apparently. It has over 10 pages...

I like the list that you have planned but if you can afford it, the Ideas from Jaidyn reference Processor and RAM are good, as for specific brand names you should go with what you feel is right you will notice for yourself if some parts are maybe not as good as they could be also everyone has different tastes. AMD make good processors and to say they are slower than their Intel counterparts is not always accurate and even when it is I would disagree that it is a really noticeable difference :)

Thank you. I love my AMD chips, and to say that one is better than the other is hardly noticed. There are MANY bottle necks that can effect the computer. Be it this GPU, RAM, or even the hard drive. As hidden as it is, even heat is a silent killer.

Pooch, I also love AMD because of this: no to little advertising; Intel on the other hand does a lot of it.

I'm revising the build. I'm changing a few things up.

I'm also putting my trip off. My friend forced me through choice words to get things together before I fly to him. (Very nice guy, details are better in another spot)

At the end of the day, I just say to myself its just another dollar.

Looks good. I'd still go with Zambezi though and would definitely go with 8GB. What do you plan to do on this computer? Not many apps or programs need more than 4GB of RAM.
