Has System Restore ever worked for you?

I have never had a system restore complete successfully. Have you?

It *has* worked for me, on a PC which hasn't got much software but managed to get the Windows Store apps into a broken state.

But I've had disappointments as well.

Maybe... I dunno... 60% success rate?

It can be useful when it works, but not to be relied on.

I wouldn't know. Disabling it is one of the first steps in my 30-step plan for installing Windows.

Wow, 30 ?? My list only has 29. Okay just kidding.

I did have System Restore work for me the one time I tried it, with no issues. I've had a couple of other people who tried it per my suggestion and it worked for both of them. I guess that puts my success rate at 100%.

Define "work"? I've had it roll back fine the few times I've used it. It didn't solve the problem I was having that made me try it though. These days I just turn it off.

System restore points are stored in the hidden folder called System Volume Information in the OS root drive C: and can be corrupted over time or due to Virus, Trojans, Hard disk failure etc... The only good use for it is to manually create a restore point before installing a new driver or trial application so that you can roll back if something does not work right.

Never, ever rely on System Restore point.

System restore is a bit of a hit and miss program . However, what it uses can be invaluable..

Anybody know what I am getting at?

I might be the only person to use it this way.

It saved my bacon a couple of times (Win XP days). Not so much with Win 8.

    It works good for me.
I don't use it very much though because I seldom have problems so serious that I need to use it.

It comes in handy when a blue or black screen happens.
I play with the computer sometimes & end up getting stuck with a blue screen.
    That's my fault.

But with a restore point, easily fixed.

I have the boot menu enabled in bios.
I press F-12 at startup to get into it.
Once in it I choose safe mode with command prompt. - (Administrator)
I type in rstrui.exe & in the restore window that pops up I choose my latest restore point & everything is good to go again.

I keep making new restore points all the time.
I always have a recent one to use.

At this point in time blue or black screens do not intimidate me, thanks to restore points.

Just waded into Win8. Used SysRest many time in XP, Vista and 7. Never a problem.
