Microsoft is focused on delivering one experience across all the devices in your life. The centerpiece of that strategy and experience are the Microsoft services and apps that come right from (the) Start on your new Windows device.

This is the first blog post in a series that will highlight the apps and services driving toward this “one experience” vision. This experience comes to life through more than 20 new and improved Microsoft apps and services that come as part of Windows 8.1

Do you know what could be the "dark horse" great app in these announcements....?
Bing Food & Drink
Chock full of recipes, wine information and cooking guides, the Bing Food & Drink app is designed to be used in the kitchen, especially with the "Hands-Free" more to navigate recipes with a wave of the hand instead of sticky fingers on the computer
I'd thought of this before - tablets are made for use in a kitchen. I'd thought of voice control too: ("Computer, add 'eggs' to next week's shopping list". "Computer, start timer on chocolate cake, placed in oven now"), but waving is neat too.

The app could also look after your shopping list on SkyDrive (my shopping list already lives in the cloud rather than on a kitchen noticeboard, ready to be worked through on Windows Phone in the shops, and it's a great way for couples to manage a shared list).

"Dave, you've used 3 eggs in this recipe. According to my stock control database there is only 1 left. Should I add 'eggs' to next week's shopping list?"

Or even:
"Shall I order these online for you"

Also, for hopeless cooks like me, the app could tell me how to cook and what to do when.

"Dave, your potatoes are 3 minutes from target cooking time, please check their consistency".

"Open the oven door, Computer"
"I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that. " ;)

um... perhaps I'm getting carried away.

But I can see a day not many years from now when every kitchen has a cheap tablet permanently stuck to a kitchen cupboard or refrigerator or whatever, to do all this stuff.

There's no technology here that doesn't exist already; it just needs good software to do it all.

Maybe it exists already for other tablets? (Android/whatever) though?
