Hey guys, I am trying to install Kali linux on a usb and use it with my efi machine. I registered on the kali forums and asked this question but my thread got deleted because the question has been answered before and they don't feel like helping a newb out. I read the entire guide on how to install it and use it with efi but I cannot add the necessary files after I use windisk32 imager to create the usb. This is extremely frustrating seeing as I cannot get help from the source. If anybody can help me I'd appreciate it rather than trying to deal with the hogwash on the other forums.

If you don't get much response, it may be because nobody here is using Kali. Vanilla Ubuntu seems to work fine.

I'm using kali for pentesting my network. I am getting into it. I don't expect a heap of responses because this isn't a kali dedicated forum but I figure it's better than nothing.

I don't know anything about Kali either, so I probably will not be much help. First, are you making a Flash Drive you can use to Install Kali on a UEFI system, or just one to boot and use the Live version?

Can we assume the making of the Flash Drive was successful and you have a bootable media? What file can you not add?

Keep in mind, I saw nothing about Kali being compatible with the Windows 8 Secure Boot system. As SIW2 mentions, the later versions of Ubuntu are compatible with Secure Boot and will run in Live or installed mode.

Hi there
while a lot here DO use LINUX for various things - this is primarily a Window Forum.

A good place to ask for Linux help is at LinuxQuestions.org

There's a load of sub forums too dealing with specific distros.

Cheers

I used universal usb installer and I can add the grub.cfg file and the bootx64.efi file as well as the grubx64.efi file. Now when I boot the drive I get the grub GNU version 2.00 terminal screen with grub> being displayed.

EDIT: I want a bootable live distro, I do not want to install on laptop.

I am trying to boot a live usb. I just enabled legacy mode but it was being a bit of a pain. I was having trouble re-accessing the bios and changing the settings back.
