How old are you and what do you think of Metro?

I read a couple weeks ago an article about Windows 8 I think in Tom's Hardware. It was pretty interesting because it spoke of how people under the age of 30 will like the Metro interface better than older people.

So to try to prove that, how old are you and do you like Metro?

I'm 22 years old and I find the Metro interface quite interesting and better than the Start Menu in finding a junkton of programs easily.

I am very old (more than 3 times your age). I think Metro is very good - for a tablet, but not for a PC operated with keyboard and mouse.

I'm just shy of 60 and find Metro interesting. I can't say it's better or worse than the Start menu interface but it certainly is different.

18, and I love having Metro on my touchscreen laptop. With Windows 7, I hardly used the touchscreen because... well, Windows 7's UI sucks for touchscreen at 1920x1080 resolution as everything is too small. The Metro UI works very well for this though.

I past 30 in the 90's, I like Metro, still use the classic UI most of the time but, I look at the Metro start page as a gadget and app icon/tile page.
Using 'Fences' in Win7 and like the clean desktop look.

With a new background Metro start page looks even better, soon we'll be able to get better looking tiles for use on desktop/laptop systems then many more will like it.
For a tablet, of coarse.

It's a keeper.

Hi all

Been around since "Pontius was a Pilot (Pilate)" and after getting the hang of it I quite like the Metro interface

Even for a laptop with mouse etc it's nice to have a clean desktop -- for apps you use a LOT from the desktop just PIN them to the taskbar at the bottom to save an extra mouse click going to the metro apps to click on your application.

The thing that gave me the most grief strangely enough was at Boot when you get the nice picture -- It took me AGES to work out to double click on the picture to get into the Metro UI and begin work

screenshots 1 and 2

For a pre beta it seems really stable --I'm going to risk using it as my main HOME OS for a while provided it doesn't crash my W2K3 and W2K8 Virtual servers I'm running on it.

Cheers

jimbo

I,m 77. No prioblems with metro, but I see no advantage at present over my fully customised (WITH folders) Windows 7 start menu. If the Beta, or the final version, introduces folders, then they have my attention (and money) Still think I prefer a clean desktop.

34 - and I hated it to start with.

But now that I've been using it properly (no longer just a VM) I'm warming to it. A Naysayer to a very tentative aye-sayer. Even the aesthetics are less repugnant now. A LOT more customisation options wouldn't hurt though.

With a few desktop only sided tweaks, it could be really useful. At the moment it just feels crippled and often counter intuitive.

If nothing else, my interest in Win 8 has been renewed :)

And at least it's better than gnome 3 and Unity :zip:

I'm 33 but I have some reservations. For one, I actually have a touch screen in the house. Seemed innovative, cutting edge, and interesting. That's now how the experience played out.

1. You spend almost as much time cleaning your fingerprints and dust particles off of the screen as you actually do working.

2. If you work at night, be prepared! The light emitted from your screen will attract any & every flying insect within a mile. When a mosquito wing brushes against the screen, it actually clicks there. And trying to sleep isn't so easy when all night long you hear insects hacking away at your pc. You'd be surprised how much they can accomplish in 8 hours. They've shut down the system, rebooted, opened office products, started games, you name it.

3. Sometimes a smudge or speck of dust is just so that it acts as a magnet for your cursor.

4. If you only need to click a few things a day, maybe it's not so bad. But if you spend any time at the PC, holding your arm straight out in front of you is ridiculous.

By the end of week 2 I had to disable touch-screen and it hasn't been back on since.

So touch screen, in my humble opinion, sucks for desktop computing. It's a gimmick. And Metro revolves around touch-screen computing. Bringing touch-screen to the desktop is like bringing a keyboard and mouse to a hand-held. It's just not the proper environment.
