Installing Win8 on a Mac is doable, apparently with good results, but probably better to wait for the pertinent iteration of Boot Camp. I have no message. I don't know anything about Soluto. Just think the article is interesting for various reasons. See sig for my connection to Windows7/Win8 and Mac.

I clicked through to the actual report, and it says this about the Mac, and why the Mac is the most reliable Windows PC: ;)

A main factor in this machine’s metrics is the fact that every Windows installation on it is clean.

With PC manufacturers loading so much crapware on new laptops, this is a bit of an unfair competition. But on the other hand, PC makers should look at this data and aspire to ship PCs that perform just as well as a cleanly installed MacBook Pro.

So definitely a lesson there for PC makers.

It is, and note that Dell was applauded for not having so much crapware. It also is a lesson for the PC makers in the sense that they need to provide means, on preinstalled machines, for purchasers to do clean crapware-free reinstalls.

Well, at least HP got the Minimized System Recovery to get rid of that crapwares.

That is the most oddest thing there, and it seems that a clean install of Windows does the trick.

Interesting though, how the number two spot under the mac is an Acer laptop, of which three can be bought over one mac. Odd.

I believe the article said the non-retina MacBook was vastly more reliable (and less likely to crash) then the retina MacBook.

I can't say I'm too surprised, both my Acer laptops came with relatively little crap-ware compared to some, although they've both
had clean installs performed since they were new. But for the price of this Acer, you could get two Mac-book Pros, with enough
left over for a couple of games or quality programs.

I've never had a reason to complain about the performance or reliability of either of them.

Usually, most of the Acer laptops I've come across have a decent array of crapware. But then again, just several years ago they were making real cruddy PCs. Nowadays, they're actually building decent ultrabooks.

Reliability of any PC does not necessarily come with brand names. I just buy a cheap pre-built system (I got HP & Acer desktops) with good motherboard and processor and the rest of the components can be crappy. I just use it for a year and then start upgrading some components or add more to it. I don't use it for gaming (I am ok with my PS3). I just want a fast system with multiple monitors. I get rid of all crapwares on first time use. I even get rid of pre-installed security and install Avast (antivirus) & Zone Alarm (Firewall). Do initial windows update and then turn it off. Reliability of any PC depends on how much you know about it.

The thing the article pointed out was that the main reason why the mac was so reliable was due to the fact they had to do a clean install in Bootcamp. A crispy clean install of Windows is the best and only way to go. :geek:

Which is why I will ALWAYS do a clean reinstall of Windows on other's PCs. Saves them problems and frustrations down the road, and I as well.

I am confused, the thread is asking about a reliable HARDWARE (PC) not SOFTWARE (OS). Right?

Both, the hardware is obviously dominated by apple, as that's what they do best. Software wise, the mac wins because of the clean install of Windows over the Acer, which was second, that has an amount of crapware installed.
