My buddy from church asked me if I was willing to replace the hard drive in his 24" iMac (2008 vintage) with a Samsung 256GB SSD. I did the work last weekend and although it was my 1st Mac upgrade, it wasn't too difficult. I followed the instructions in ifixit.com and a few youtube videos, which helped a lot. The 256GB SSD really makes a huge difference and the iMac runs like a new one now, according to my friend...

The older iMacs are pretty easy to repair. the new ones are practically welded together and (at least for a couple models) require a proprietary hard drive. I replaced the hard drive in my 2006 iMac I think three years ago and it's still chugging along. I can't get the video driver installed into Windows 8, so it's still stuck on 7 until I find the complicated method I used to install the video driver in 7 (the ATI X1600 doesn't officially support 7 or 8)

I have a friend who is apple EVERYTHING. She recently bought a Windows Phone 8, a Nokia Lumia 822. After pooping the bed in utter shock, I had a thought of trying to get Windows 8 in Bootcamp on her imac...

But then I realized I'd need nitrile gloves, lots of tarp, and possibly burn whatever it touches as I do not want that filth in my house. :)
