A quote by someone I know who got a Wacom Bamboo tablet to use with Photoshop...

Anyways, I found some interesting stuff from Microsoft when I was trying to find the Windows Phone TellMe notification sounds.

This one is REAL interesting as this centers around natural speech input for command and search. Also interesting is the metro UI design of Windows Phone and the tablet that was used... This one was pretty neat because at a recent event from Microsoft centered around natural speech command and input, particularly in Excel where you could tell it to add certain things from certain columns and kind of extrapolate and manipulate table data, ALL by natural voice input. They also showed improvements with speech search with Bing and the network/server side improvements.

This video I found fascinating, a Microsoft video depicting 2019's technology (more like 2029 AT LEAST) and more importantly, user interface design. Notice how there is NO window chrome, all centered around the content. I believe the eye candy shouldn't be the little window wrapping on a Desktop, it should be the ACTUAL content itself within that window. I really liked the UI design, and how it revolves around the NUI, or Natural User Interface of speech, touch, and motion gesturing. REALLY FREAKING NEAT. And guess what recent development(s) from Microsoft are pushing that centric design? Windows 8. Xbox with Kinect. Windows Phone. Office 2013. The best part I loved about this was in the office scenario where you can literally drag content from one seemingly different PC with touch (gesture I think as well) and drag it down to what looked it to be the tablet. So cool! NFC technology perhaps?

This is the future!

Very very very cool video's there!!! I think this has a high StarTrek level ==> I like that :D. Computers that understand etc. and communicate via voice and touch.

Let's see what the future will bring for us. In about 20 years we will know!

The sterility of the surroundings is striking.

Interesting to see it, though.

They aren't showing anything approaching real work, of course, just pretend like jolly meetings and presentations.

I didn't notice any builders - perhaps they will be extinct in MS re imagined fantasy land.

Having grown up in 50's & 60's with adding machines that were limited to adding/subtracting one item at a time only emerge into calculators. I believe these videos aren't far off.
I loved going to the museum and using the phones of the future. Sitting in one spot so that both people could see who they were talking to. The setups were also big & bulky compared to what we have today. But it all starts out big & bulky.

We've come a long way in 65 or so years. I think these concepts aren't too far off if economies continue to get and stay healthy.

I'm sure most of you saw this, but I thought I'd post it anyway. We've come a long way from when this was produced in 1992.

Agree on code, but would it not be possible for a computer to write the code to use as it's going along. Something on the order of artificial intelligence. Remember we're talking about the very near speed of light.

Absolutely nothing is impossible.

Absolutely nothing is impossible.

Computer processors and software compilers have been doing the work for years. But someone has to write the compiler to translate ascii code to binary which addresses the hardware. If you are talking about holographic concepts like the holodeck in star trek, that's cool, but most of us will not be here. Artificial intelligence borders on terminator possibilities (the movie). AI exists in some primitive form now, but all this stuff depends on economic reality. How about IRobot?

Absolutely nothing is impossible

Well, do you think hmmmm, xyz or swd3 will ever like the metro?

Yes, I agree.

The terminator way is just a possibility. This is mostly because of the human fear in the matter. It can turn another better ways as well. But the most intelligent species (man or machine) has the right to evolve further. :)

Self programming code? That is still a dream. Man still has to do the hard work and we're not even close to the speed of light yet. :D

Honestly, the way Microsoft is rapid releasing their code, the 2019 video might not actually be that far off. Interesting as I didn't realize that one was released in 2009, which kind of suggests Microsoft was heading the metro route obviously when they started work on Windows 8. The neat thing I saw in that one is in the board room scenario where some people were doing collaborative work with the HUGE touch display, that was OneNote with the Radial menu UI!

Also, one day I wish to have a house where I have one room, where it has nothing but glass windows for walls....

So that way, I can run Windows on my windows!

No disrespect intended, but, I just watched all 4 videos on this thread. Wow... pure science fiction. And life styles of the rich and the rich. If civilization survives, (that's if) I doubt that level of advance would exist in 50 years. And if so, only in very tiny elite wealthy cultures. I mean, really, most of the planet has 3rd world status, and to think that humanity will rise to that level is not realistic. All those toys cost money. One does not need a $10,000 monitor to check the news and weather. Or a classroom that costs millions of dollars. In the 1950's and 60's we were expected to have highly advanced space travel capabilities by the year 2001. We can't even build a human transport pod to get to the moon today. Who can afford all this unnecessary tech? Our culture is devolving into the demolition man model (the movie). What about the 3rd world? Billions. They do not need touch devices. They need food and water and a job. Are we talking star wars tech here. Interplanetary space travel, time warp and wormholes? Star trek supposedly evolved the entire planetary culture such that everything was the same, no distinction between races, cultures or countries. And they apparently did away with money. So now we are talking 300 to 500 years into the future.
The future? The future for whom? The wealthy and healthy.

    That's basically it.

Well said. :thumb:

Agree. As an old Hippie type I could write a thesis on what you just posted. I changed my avatar instead. I'm sure you get the gist.

To keep it short, an ideological song authored by a man who ironically died a violent death like so many of his kind. He was certainly not the first to bring it to our attention looking through history. There were many more both male and female. Yes, when we do away with ALL OF OUR prejudices then we'll get somewhere as a species IMHO. If there's one character defect I dislike within myself it's most certainly that!
