So, my goal this weekend is to attempt to use nothing but the surface pro and see how it goes. I'm also trying to use it without the type cover and using the touch screen as much as possible. lots making me mad right now, for example I wanted this to be a new paragraph, but the surface is moving me back up to the previous paragraph even thought I hit enter a few times to drop down and start a new paragraph.

and now, I was able to start a new paragraph..odd

I spent about an hour with one note 2013 and that was a bit frustrating, but it was a new product as well as a new interface.

also got lync 2013 going, but nobody is at work right now to chat with.

and for the sake of eval, I am not using third party stuff and I am also using IE. Missing all of my chrome shortcuts though.

so far, still alive.

Two things that I thought that I would ask

  1. on the start screen, is there any way to just start typing the name of an app to bring it up? It seems I have to bring up charms and then pc settings and then select keyboard. That takes away the entire advantage of instantly searching. I know I can bring up charms and hit search and that brings up the keyboard.
  2. is there a way to get the keyboard to pop up automatically when I click in the reply field in this browser on this forum. Its getting tiring having to click in the reply field and then click on the keyboard icon in the corner.

I also dislike how the keyboard close is right above the backspace key. I keep making typos and then accidentally reaching up for backspace and closing the keyboard.

another annoyance is that often when typing, and I hit the spacebar, I accidentally bump the windows logo and I am fired back to the start screen and I leave this browser and this forum.

Yep, swipe open the Charms bar, hit Search. Windows automatically brings up the keyboard. You basically can just type LITERALLY anything you want and hit the app to run the search. Sometimes, I just type in a search query that I normally would when I open IE to Bing. I just type that in at Start, hit Internet Explorer, and I already have search results. Saves a bit of time. ULTIMATE Search tool if you ask me.

I'm guessing you're on the Desktop IE version? Are you using the immersive IE? Also, if you're signed into a Microsoft Account, your Favorites folder as well as IE pins to the Start Screen will transfer over to a Windows 8 PC you've signed into with that Account.

I've yet to experience that issue with the touchscreen keyboard with Windows 8.

Oh, I would image you'd need to use the stylus more with OneNote 2013, there also an app of OneNote, titled OneNote MX in the Windows Store. That one is MUCH more designed for touch input with the Radial menu and whatnot.
