1. How much is the Contrast Ratio between those monitors?
2. What kind of work do you want to do?

For number 2, from the screen resolution you can expect:
The Packard Bell Monitor will be great for Graphics (Photoshop, Corel DRAW) and Gaming, but don't expect good quality on text, because high resolution makes the text on the screen smaller.

On the other hand, the Samsung Monitor is better than the PB monitor on text's. If you have a weaker graphics card I would recommend the Samsung one. It will reduce the load on the VGA card.

The text size is not an issue, i do use Photoshop, Corel Video Studio and Play Games.
I also have an Nvidia Geforce GT 440 1GB so its not weak. It also runs through DVI not VGA.

Then maybe the Packard Bell is better, if you have a brighter room than for the Samsung.
You can try them both, and you can decide which one is better.
Basically, high resolution is needed if you need high details and/or more items to display on the screen.

Business 101... Do not make decisions based on sunk costs. :) (i.e. don't worry about how much was spent in the past)

You only mention the resolution of the monitors, so is it safe to assume that they are roughly the same physical size?

One additional item to throw into the mix, the Packard Bell is 1080p, so it would be good for viewing high def video.

Of course, I am all for keeping peace in the family, so if you would like to use the monitor other than the one your dad got you, you should weigh that in your decision. You may want to consider talking with your dad to get a sense for how he feels about it... stressing that you have really enjoyed the great monitor for the time you have had it.

The bottom line to me... whichever one you like the best is the best one for you (regardless of OS).

Enjoy!

Thanks, the monitors are roughly the same size and they are about the same age. Its just i dont want to waste a great monitor that was really expensive. The Packard bell one was dirt cheap for a monitor. Plus the Samsung is slightly brighter.

Wish you had room for the multi monitor setup. But, I'd use the Packard Bell, since it's a FullHD monitor.
