I like getting and reading books on OS's like this one. While everything "can" be found with Google searching, it's nice to have it all in one place and if you read it from start to finish, it forces you to explore topics you would have never known even existed..thus you would have not googled it.

Pick up a couple today while in town (Boise - 110 miles away):

    Windows 8 for Dummies
The Complete Guide to Windows 8

Will do some reading and playing around this weekend (nothing to do this weekend with 22" of new snow; 100" so far).

I have the Windows 7 Step by Step book and it's excellent. I got a good deal on it shortly after Windows 7 was released and I found it a lot better written than another Win7 book that didn't cost me anything. (I don't remember the title of the other one: it has an orange cover. I got a "pre-release" copy and a free download of updates after RTM.)

I've ordered the Step by Step one via Amazon, I don't usually bother with books for any of the machines I've had so far apart from monthly magazines I once used to get when I first had a computer, that was I believe the Windows 98 mags. Didn't have them for that long as I just learned through clicking everything.

My copy of Step by Step arrived yesterday, I didn't realise how thick it was but it looks brilliant and will certainly be something I'll keep delving into over time. I expect by the time I've finished reading it the next OS will be out.
