Unsure, but as a business traveler I have shared in my fare shares of large hotels which either didn't offer free wi-fi or there wasn't converage to my room and I had to use the jack in my room. I don't want her to be stuck in a place where she cannot utilize her computer because she doesn't have a connection.

The adapter is actually USB to Ethernet..but I am sure your comment was just a typo. You can usually find these devices at stores which sell MacBook air's as they have no Ethernet port and people sometimes need a wired connection (for work) or want a wired connection for much faster speeds.

I honestly thought finding that adapter would be a no-brainer. I didn't even check the websites before I left, I just jumped in my car and drove over expecting full well to find one. But since chains like Comp-USA and such went out of business around here and most big box stores have substantially cut back inventory you cannot find crap anymore. Online sales have killed these places and now they are almost useless.

Oh I see. I've had a my share of hotels that either have stupidly fast wifi, to disturbingly slow wifi, to both slow and spotty wifi and Ethernet connections that are just a step above dial up. I was thinking about this, and a solution could be if she has a smartphone with a data plan, she could possibly use the data tethering feature on it if it has one. Or, using the wireless provider to get a USB data modem with 3G or 4G. This probably might not be cost effective if it just will be a one hit wonder type of thing, you could consider using T-Mobile's prepaid mobile hotspot service.

Well she is traveling to the UK and then Australia. I'm trying to keep things as simple and straight forward as possible. That is why she has the tiny ultrabook, but it certainly comes with some tradeoffs. I set up the machine recently and it ranks as one of the most infuriating computers that I have ever had the displeasure of working with. I hate the thing. Some people at my company thought they kicked butt simple because they looked like a Mac book air. I call it the Dell book air.

I would consider Robots advice. However, this can also be spotty or non-existent when traveling overseas. Depending on provider, plans and locations.

I would also get that USB to Ethernet adapter as a back up as well.

And I know what you mean about stores not having much stuff these days, even PC Repair shops are pretty lacking.
But yeah, MicroCenter if you have one of those would have it.

Yep, the "technology" stores only carry accessories and garbage, no real technology being sold... Just like the "auto parts" stores that carry 35 kinds of cedar-tree shaped air fresheners, but don't carry auto parts. Sad...

There should be more App stores for Windows 8 like Android!
I think there should be more stores for Windows 8 Apps and not just Windows store. Just like Android has many stores for its Apps. This would make Windows 8 a more open system than what Apple's ios has and this would contribute to Windows 8 success against Apple's ios as Windows 8 would then have...
