What about having different badges for the different threads ie: We could have an 8 Forums Security badge and an 8 Forums GFX badge. A lot of people tend to post heavily in some threads more than others and if they had a chance at getting, say, an 8 Forums Installation and Setup badge they would be more focused on helping in that section, Users would be also be less confused as they are more likely to pay attention to a poster that had a badge for that thread. It might even cut down on, or at least minimize pointless threads and arguements.

I actually really like that idea, but the problem is that people like me who float between categories, and post in the general section. We don't have a specialty, but still have an idea of how to help. So in this case having a general badge helps.
