I upgrade the Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Professional RTM. Both are 64bit. After playing around with the Windows 8 I restarted the system but it stuck in a boot loop. It just enters automatic repair and after that it says that I have IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL problem. When the countdown ends it gives me a message where can I locate the log file. If I want to go to advanced boot settings the system restarts and it freezes when I want to choose between safe mode, boot with other settings etc. I will try to post the log file via Hirens Boot. Please I need help desperately !

I faced this problem during installation of Windows 8 x64 and x86 to my new Acer Aspire V5 laptop. Does anybody have ideas how to continue debugging this kind of problems ?

If your Aspire V5 laptop has a Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network Adapter in it, the driver that comes with Windows 8 for this network adapter is what causes the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. To fix this, you need to boot into the Windows 8 Recovery Environment (by using the Troubleshooting -> Advanced menu and loading a command prompt after the boot fails repeatedly), and follow these instructions starting at step 3 under "Use the Windows Recovery Environment" at this link -> After you install a device or update a driver for a device, Windows Vista or Windows 7 may not start <- and disable the "athr" driver service in the Offline section. This will allow you to boot into Windows, after which you will need to install the correct driver from Acer's website which you have loaded onto portable media from another PC.

Whats the name of the "athr" driver?
