Hi there. Remove Avast! in safe mode with tool from them, in safe mode. Reboot, then set Windows Defender and Windows Firewall services to Automatic. Start them.

Update:

HCW85BDA HCW85BDA.sys Tue Jul 14 16:46:46 2009 (4A5CEEB6)
cmudaxp cmudaxp.sys Tue Nov 18 05:09:34 2008 (4922945E)

Do those things in any order you want. If they stop happening (as if before Avast! removal to suppose) - then you can keep Avast installed instead, but it is the most likely culprit here. Cmudaxp is a very close 2nd most likely.

Okay so I uninstalled Avast using its own tool in safe mode.

As for those two files I believe they are for my Hauppauge tv tuner and Asus Sound card and I've updated them to 2011 drivers, though I don't think that there are drivers specifically for windows 8 yet.

Will post further if the BSOD comes back. Thank you so much for your help and quick reply!
