Hey guys and gals..I've come across a serious problem here... I've been running Windows 8 RE for about a month with zero problems. Here is the story..so I shut down my pc the other day..btw I'm running an i7 950..12gig ddr 3 upgraded from win 7. I turned the pc back on the next day and I get stuck in a repair loop..I check command prompt via repair and its showing windows to be on drive x:\? My copy is installed on C..which is my sad. Any idea of what I can do here? I've even tried to reformat via dos but it says drive is ntfs. Also tried to do a restore , it shows the backup date to be the 6th but says I must enable system protection on the drive. I have tried to boot from my windows 7 disk to go back to reformat as well and it tells me to restart and select a proper boot device. Im stumped...any help is much appreciated..Im typing from my cell btw.

The X: drive thing is normal - it's a RAM drive that's made when it can't boot into Windows.

Do you have a Win8 Release Preview disk that you can boot from? If so, can you run the Repair from there? How about the Refresh or a Repair install? Maybe even a format from that disk?

Another suspicion is that the hard drive may be dead/dying. Try one of the free, bootable hard drive diagnostics from here: Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure
