Solved BSOD After Opening Windows 8 Camera App

Whenever I open the Camera app on my Dell Venue Pro tablet, a ATTEMPT_TO_EXECUTE_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY error occurs and a dump file is created. After the dump is finished, the tablet reboots. No other display problems have been noted. The Camera app was working during the Xmas holidays last month and I am not aware of any updates to the app since then. How do I troubleshoot this problem?

The DM log collector tool info is attached.

There is a lot of Windows Update failure, please try following below.

Diagnostics Test

System File Check

Please try following:

  • Open an admin command prompt
  • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
  • When it finished reboot your system
  • Open again an admin command prompt
  • Enter sfc/scannow again

If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation" after the second SFC, please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

Please check following directory for files
Code:
%systemroot%\minidump
select the files > right click > copy > zip and upload the zip in your next reply.

I ran the sfc command twice as requested, the first pass found corrupted files that were repaired and the final result did not find any integrity violations. There are no files in the minidump folder. Are there any additional steps you recommend?

Be sure the crash settings are properly configured please
BSOD Minidump - Configure to Create in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Also check following
- Search "services.msc" (without quotes)
- Search Windows Error Reporting Service
- Check the startup type
- right click the service > choose properties > make sure the startup type is manual

The dump option was set to Automatic Memory Dump. Is the Small Memory dump a better option to use for BSOD troubleshooting?

I set the dump option to Small Memory dump and attempted to open the Camera app again. A BSOD occurred again. I had thought that the results of the sfc command were such that the problem had been resolved. I have attached another DM tool zip file for further analysis.

Editing a post doesn't notify me, when you add a new zip do so in a new post.

SFC is only for checking the file system in case of corruption, but nothing more.

I'm not sure what this driver is, but according to the description it is Intel(R) Imaging Signal Processor 240.
Try to reinstall the Camera app if you haven't yet.

After viewing the driver information for the Webcam and cameras in Device Manager, I noted that the Image Signal Processor 2400 driver that you mentioned was updated on 1/3/16 with a Windows Update. It was identified as a Webcam update. I have not found a method to uninstall / reinstall the Camera app. Is it possible to uninstall this Windows update or rollback the driver to an earlier version? Apparently this update is known to fail the Dell tablet camera app as far back as 2014.

Camera fails to load with recent driver update (Pro 8) | TabletPCReview.com - Tablet PC Reviews, Discussion and News

If either of these options are recommended, please provide instructions since I am not familiar with either process.

It is possible to uninstall Windows Update updates.
It is possible to rollback drivers IF the option is available and not greyed out in device manager.

I was able to rollback to the earlier version of the driver. The camera is now working as before with no problems.
