Okay so I have seen im 1 of many who have had this problem. When i am on chrome and windows media player at the same time, my computer freezes and i am forced to restart my computer via power button. When i try to use Metro IE10 instead the same thing happens without media player on. Hopefully someone on here can help. Im not 100% tech savvy but have enough common knowledge to do what needs to be done
Specs:
-Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.30GHz
-Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB
-System type: 64-bit Operating System

um idk what more you need... Oh i also ran these to things so hopefully you can help :D

Try going to the BIOS and disabling C-States,a few people have been having issues like these(like myself) and that has solved it...

If that doesn't work... check your drivers...

I believe it stays (in my BIOS) under Performance or Power Options... It's a check-box for Enable/Disable

Someone posted an alternative, I haven't tried it, however....

It is as follows:
http://www.eightforums.com/crashes-...d-around-my-freezing-problem-windows-8-a.html
If you have no disable C-States option in the BIOS (most laptops don't) you can workaround by creating a new Custom Power Plan and set - as an advanced option - in the Processor Power Management Tab the minimum processor rate at 50-70% ( i set myself at 50%) and the maximum processor rate at the very same value! (50%-50% or 70%-70%).

No crashes since then! Yes it takes from the processing power, but at least the system is stable.

Doesn't matter, the power options are still there.

To access power options, press "Win" and "R" to bring up the Run dialog
Then type "powercfg.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
"Create a power plan" is in the left sidebar.

Stop using chrome. That perfectly solved issue for me. Try Firefox or Waterfox (64bit Firefox)

After i get home and wake up my computer, it crashed.....

It looks like this is an upgrade install of Windows. While it may be more convenient, upgrade installations have many more issues than clean installations.

I would suggest backing up your stuff and installing Win8RP "clean".

So im thinking about reinstalling windows 7 and waiting till 8 is fully released. I have about 75gb of cloud storage so i will go and put my program files there and also my important files as well. To downgrade I read that i must install from the disk and do a full format of my drive. the only problem is that my computer never came with a disk. Literally i plugged it in, went to a setup wizard, and was ready to go. Do you hink i can download the needed files through gateway and burn the iso to a disk or some other method? or should i make a new thread about this.

Depends on where you download it from. OEM licenses are different from retail licenses.

whats the difference between OEM licenses and retail licenses? I talked to Gateway Chat and the dude told me (After trying to make me buy a recovery disk) that I can use windows 7 then download the drivers for my computer on their website.

OEM licenses are sold by equipment manufacturer's and don't entitle you to support from Microsoft
Retail licenses get support from Microsoft.

OEM disks are much cheaper than Retail disks - as you already own a Gateway license, but not a retail license (for this system).

Downloading drivers (from the Gateway website) or another website (such as the specific device manufacturer's) is almost always necessary - but Win7 is making this less likely.
