Solved Any network connectivity result in Kernel_Security_Check_F

This is my first post and I am at my wits' end ...

I have just upgraded a Gigabyte desktop / x64 AMD processor computer from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and have now lost all network / internet connectivity. Whenever I connect to the network (via LAN cable or a Belkin wireless adapter) I get an immediate Kernel_Security_Check_Failure.

It seems unlikely to be the drivers as both connection mechanisms fail - so it must be something that's common but I cannot trace what it is. The wi-fi connection actually indicates "Connected" to the router and then fails ...

Worse, since I now have no means to connect to the internet, I cannot do the Windows Updates or run any driver update tool!

I tried to attach two minidump files - one from the 17th tested with the LAN cable and one from the 19th tested with the Wi-Fi connector - but the "Manage Attachments" form tells me the .dmp files are an invalid file type. Any ideas?

Help please!

*** File uploaded ***

Thanks in advance
Pierre

Please run the DM Collector tool and upload the zip.
The reason why dumps are uploaded in zip files is what you describe ;)

Thanks axe0 for pointing me in the right direction

I have edited my original post with the uploaded zip file ... I guess my frustration got the better of me and I didn't read the instructions  In mitigation, considering the time zone, it was late at night and I was probably half asleep to boot!!!

Thanks & regards
Pierre

The dumps are blaming a Windows driver.
I have seen 2 kind of crashes, 1 is the kernel_security_failure and 1 is the driver_irql_not_less_or_equal.
Because the kernel security is most common in your case I'd like to troubleshoot this crash first. The driver problem has occurred 2 times of the 12 crashes.

Because most crashes are caused by 3rd party drivers and windows drivers are blamed it may be possible to find the driver(s) that is causing this problem via driver verifier,
Please read driver verifier | Sysnative.
Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
Please create a restore point.

In order to get the driver, we need to stress it out, done via driver verifier. If driver verifier finds a violation the pc will crash.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.
Please perform a full scan with Avast and Malwarebytes.

If you have a laptop go to your manufacturer
make sure you update following drivers

Hi axe0

Thanks for your advice ...

1. One of the first things I did was to do a Malwarebytes and Avast full scan - both were clean

2. I will commence the driver verifier stress process immediately

3. Since I cannot access any network from the offending PC, I will download the drivers via my laptop and install them via memory stick

4. Fortunately all my files (with the exception of my mailbox) is on a second hard drive - all I need to save is the mailbox which I will do ASAP.

I will revert as soon as there is news / results.

Kind regards
Pierre

The zip file is empty, please try it again :)

I have started the whole process again - with customising the Driver Verifier and waiting for it to get a BSOD. Rebooted and ran DM Data Collector Tool ... and it came up completely empty again.

Also, based on the following recommendation: If you have a laptop go to your manufacturer make sure you update following drivers" ...

... I have spent significant time on these web sites (from my laptop - my desktop does not have any internet access - and I cannot locate these recommended drivers.

Any idea on how to proceed from here?

Thanks
Pierre

Can you find the MEMORY dump file located at C:\Windows\? If so, please upload this dump file with the other dump files located at C:\Windows\Minidump\ in a zip file. If you can't upload the zip file, try a 3rd party uploader.
Also, please try the BSOD Inspector tool and upload the zip file, maybe the zip file from BSOD Inspector does contain something.

In some cases the website automatically detects the driver and gives you the appropriate update.
Can you find the devices in the device manager?

Is there a special reason why your desktop doesn't have access to internet?

Please fill in your specs:
click on user cp in the right side of the top of the page > my settings list on the left side on the page> 2nd from above, there can you fill in your system specs. Your system specs may be necessary information.
Your system specs may improve the process for troubleshooting

The cause of the BSOD with driver verifier is Avast, please remove Avast using this tutorial | Seven forums
Code:
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for [COLOR=#ff0000]aswSP.sys [/COLOR]
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for aswSP.sys
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for [COLOR=#ff0000]aswVmm.sys [/COLOR]
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for aswVmm.sys
Windows defender will automatically enable itself once Avast is properly removed.

For updating the drivers, some are with programs, if you update those program you update the drivers.

Thanks ... I removed Avast and I can now connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi ... have not tested Ethernet LAN yet but I am sure it will be OK

Busy downloading updates and will get to driver updates soon.

Thanks again for the assistance ... you're awesome!!!

Pierre
