Solved BSOD After Installing NVIDIA Drivers

So I have been to 2 other forums and have gotten zero answers. Here is my BSOD zip file:

View attachment 64137

I recently had a BSOD while attempting to open NVIDIA nTune, which was probably just a bad idea anyway, but I'm pretty sure it's related.

To sum up the main issue, whenever I install a NVIDIA driver for my new build, the driver installer asked me to restart, but when I do, it crashes my system completely and I get a BSOD right after the windows logo/loading symbol appears and disappears. The error reads "DRIVER_OVERRAN_STACK_BUFFER". 90% of the time Windows will attempt to boot twice and perform an automatic repair in which it disables all the NVIDIA drivers.
I have attempted to install only the graphics driver (none of the unnecessary 3d or physX stuff) but I have made no progress.
I've also been trying to install the basic nvidia driver via windows update (an update from February) but windows update just keeps failing to do, well, anything.

I appreciate any help. I've been looking for answers for three days now, this is a new build I made just for gaming and I can't even play any games on it...

Specs:

Gigabyte GTX960 WF OC
Intel 4690k
ASUS Z97-E
Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB (2x8GB)

Like I said, I have gotten zero answers so far. My posts usually go unnoticed. I have done a lot of googling but nothing ive seen in other forum posts has worked.

I thought their answers were total useless.

According to the dumps, you have 2 Nvidia drivers
nvvad64v.sys Thu Jul 2 04:12:51 2015 (55949E23) which is the Nvidia Virtual Audio driver
nvlddmkm.sys Wed Jun 17 07:36:26 2015 (5581075A) which is the Nvidia Video driver and the cause of the BSOD's.

Please remove this driver, nvlddmkm.sys, and install the drivers from your manufacturer.

You mean Gigabyte, right? Because I have already tried that.
. It gave me the same BSOD, and I tried several times. It's the same driver, it just says gigabyte on it, haha...

I don't mean any program, I mean the driver.

Also, its not recommended to install drivers via a program.
Its best to manually download and install drivers to be sure its done properly.

Huh? That's what I said... The drivers from gigabyte are the same, or they at least have the same result. I have uninstalled and reinstalled them from both NVIDIA and gigabyte several times.

OK, then please install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, the free version. Make sure you uncheck the trial at the end of the installation and run a full scan.
Reason for this is because malware is possibly another cause of the BSOD you receive.

NVIDIA nTune is massively deprecated software. It's latest version is from 2007... You might have broke something by messing with it. I'm not going to research what registry entries and other modifications ntune makes, don't have a proper test machine at the moment.

Your display driver is definitely the culprit. "nvlddmkm.sys"

Make sure you're using WHQL drivers from NVIDIA. Don't use geforce experience to update drivers, ever. Download them from NVIDIA's site.

Completely uninstall your old NVIDIA sriver and do a "clean install". (tick the box when you install drivers.)

This is a new build, so I doubt its got to do with viruses, but I will try it. Unfortunately it is very late here now, so I will do it in the morning and report back. Thanks

I'm just seeing your other comment. I have done the clean install several times as well. I used DDU to clean out of drivers as well as manually remove them in the "uninstall a program" application. I also have tried to install them manually as well, even the first time when I first encountered the issue.

Neither worked. I also tried setting the display service to manual but it still crashes.

Does anyone know what the code means?

The meaning of this error
A driver overran a stack-based buffer (or local variable) in a way that would have overwritten the function's return address and jumped back to an arbitrary address when the function returned.
This is the classic "buffer overrun" hacking attack. The system has been brought down to prevent a malicious user from gaining complete control of it.

Please run Furmark, just to make sure its not the gpu.

I was expecting a more layman's term definition, but I can't blame you, there's a lot of different errors to know for that purpose...

Anyway, great news. It was the GPU. I took it in to Micro Center and the people at the knowledge center looked at it for free. The tried a old geforce card in it and saw that when they forced the BIOS to generate graphics through the PCIe slot, it would do so with no problems. The other GPU would not (as a rookie builder, I thought I had done something wrong and this was the default behavior). We ended up buying an MSI GTX970 and downloading the appropriate drivers in-store. It was a slow connection so we left to get some lunch, came back and the technician told me it installed and reset with zero problems. So my first rig has been upgraded (by my very proud and generous father, haha) and the BSOD problem is solved.

Anyone else having similar issues with their GPU should take it to a technician. Micro Center is the only good chain I know (do NOT try GeekSquad), and they didn't even charge us for it. It seems like most of these issues are caused by a bad or dying GPU. It's worth at least asking them to test another one in your machine.

Thanks everyone!

Its the best and easiest definition I could come up with.
I didn't research it to the bottom, but if you want to know it better you could research it to the bottom;)

Glad the problem is solved:)
