Hi guys,

I've noticed a few of these (amongst others). They usually happen when I'm not at the machine, but latest one happened right in front of me.

PC is Windows 8.1
Radeon HD5750 (incidentally, "Catalyst Control Centre has stopped working" happens ALL the time),
Focusrite external USB sound card (onboard sound on MB also used)
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

I'm hoping one of you kd gurus could tell me which device/driver is causing the bother.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to 8F, I'll see if I can help you solve your issues.

Your ATI driver has been flagged. Download the last known working driver from here and save it to your desktop. Download DDU and follow Display Driver Uninstaller: How to use - Windows 7 Help Forums to remove all traces of your current driver. Reboot and install the downloaded driver.

Being a 0x116 it could be another issue; power to the card, overheating or the card itself among other things. Follow the installation steps above first to see if that cures the issue, if not we'll look at other troubleshooting steps.

I'd like you to run a couple of diagnostic tests too please, just to rule out any issues.

:ar: Download and run MemTest86+ to test your RAM. RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Help Forums

Run MemTest86+ for at least 8 passes. Ideally set it off before you go to bed and leave it overnight, we're looking for zero errors here. A single error will show something's going bad with your RAM.

Hi Boozad,

Thanks for your help and sorry for the delay.

I've done everything you suggested except the memtest.

I've had no issues I'm aware of since, but issues were hardly regular to begin with.

There was one incident of the graphics card failing to wake from sleep.

Also, no idea about CCC crashing, as I used the complete driver removal/re-install as an opportunity to not install it.

Cheers. I'll post back if I get any more bluescreens.

Hmm. Think I need to run that memory thing.

Updated Pc this morning and turned it off to go to work, got home turned it on. Half a dozen bluescreens before it stayed on long enough to install updates and present login.

Only 1 registered with Bluescreenview. That was a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED in CI.dll, but I saw others as they happened: NTFS_FILESYSTEM and SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION amongst others I missed. According to here: Solve Windows 8.1 "Blue Screen On Startup" Error - Basic Remedies these point to RAM issues.

My RAM is a bit odd. 12gb. A newer 8gb and 2 older 2gb, which I think used to give me jip before I changed motherboard: System would not stop bluescreening until it had warmed up. Which is what appears to be happening here again.

I should just whip out the older 4gb I reckon?

Yes I would, just keep the newer 8GB installed then run Memtest86+ as outlined in post #2.
