System crashes for no apparent reason

Hi everybody,

I've experienced a depressing barrage of BSOD on my new pc. There doesn't seem to be some immediate trigger or repoducible scenario (sometimes PC runs without problems for hours sometimes it crashes twice in a row).

WhoCrashed tells me it's probably a software driver bug but drivers are up to date as far as i can tell.

BSOD have included KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, Page fault in non-paged area, system service exception...

You've receievd a couple of different types of crash, one being a 0x124 which is a genereic hardware failure STOP. There are a series of diagnostic and stress tests to try and pinpoint the piece of hardware but I'd like to address a couple of other issues first to see if the BSODs stop.

1: Your Huawei Modem, is it connected via USB? The driver is causing issues, check here for an updated version.

2: Your nVidia driver has also been flagged. Search here for the latest version for you card and follow NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems - Windows 7 Help Forums for the cleanest possible install.

3: Uninstall DAEMONTools, a proven cause of countless BSODs.

1. Uninstall Daemon Tools via Add/Remove Programs.
2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and perform the following steps.
3. Double click the executable to open it.
4. Click the button shown below.

picture.php

information   Information
If the button it is grayed out as shown in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system and you can just close the window.

Perform the above steps and test the system for stability. In the event of any more BSODs please run the Log Collector tool again and attch the new logs in your next post.

Thanks for the quick response.

I have some confusions.

1: Yes, it's a E3272 USB-Modem and as far as I can tell there don't seem to be any updates or newer drivers available. I've installed it a week ago and the problems precede this device so I doubt that it is the (main) culprit.

2: I've used newer nVidia drivers until I read smowhere that the newest version might cause crashes (I don't know whether that's true).

About the clean install: I let the nvidia geforce experience handle all the driver updates and i have no idea where the old drivers are. I don't know how important deleting the old drivers is but if it is I need some help finding and identifying them. They are not in a folder with their version number nor in a folder named 'Display Drivers'.

3: I have uninstalled DT as suggested but the BSODs preceded this program.

It is one of the main culprits, the dump files tell us so. The driver for it is two years old, contact the system manufacturer letting them know the problem and ask them to advise.

Do you have an nVidia folder in C: drive? That's where the Display Drivers folder is located. Do you check the 'clean install' box when updating your drivers? Read Part Four of NVIDIA GeForce Experience: A Beginner's Guide - Windows 7 Help Forums to ensure you perform clean installs of the drivers. Personally I update my nVidia driver manually, I found Experience to be more trouble than it was worth.

At the moment the problem with the modem doesn't seem solvable.

I have still no idea where the nvidia geforce experience put the old drivers BUT Display Driver Uninstaller took care of them nicely. Now only the last driver (352.86) is installed. (Not gonna use experience for updates anymore.)

Until now I haven't experienced any spontaneous Blue Screens but The PC crashes when I put some strain on the system (playing Shadows of Mordor).

I'll take a look at your new dumps shortly, I'm on my phone at the moment. Good method for installing your drivers, well done. Install every new GPU driver that way and you'll be good.

Do you have Driver Verifier enabled?

The Huawei Technologies Filter driver has been flagged this time, more evidence pointing towards the modem being problematic. Is this a wireless USB modem, and is there any chance you could use an ethernet connection to take the Huawei modem out of the mix? Could you give me the model number of the modem too so I can do some research on it.

Driver Verifier is disabled again after it wreaked havoc. (... don't ask.)

Yes, it's a HUAWEI E3272 LTE USB-Modem (Firmware Version 21.436.11.00.00). I used to have another Modem (E1221) and installed this one a week ago. (Haven't had any troubles with it so far). Unfortunately it's the only way for me to connect to the internet at the moment.

The only thing I've managed to find so far is this post (#4) on the Huawei forum saying that the E3272 doesn't work well on Windows 8/8.1. I'll keep looking.

I just had another BSOD. Is it too soon to check for hardware problems on the pc itself? And is there any way to check for other driver conflicts?

Thanks in advance.
