Update April 30 2015 for Alps Pointing Drawing 12C HID Driver.

Dell XPS 13 9Q33 Windows 8.1. Intel I7, 8GB. SSD.

Took me a while to figure this was the culprit. Caused System Service Exception on re-start. No logs available.

I have the same system as you and keep getting the Service Exception BSOD. How did you fix it? Thanks

I restored my computer from a BU drive. If you have Windows Update set to "Install Updates Automatically" change that to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them". When you check for updates, right click on the Alps driver and change it so that it doesn't download - I believe the choice is to remove it from the list, or something like that. You can also go to device manager and roll the driver back if it is already installed. However, my experience was that when the driver was installed, as soon as I re-started the system it caused the system service exception and windows wouldn't re-start, nor could I get into safe mode. I had to restore first and (painfully) update selectively until I discovered which update was causing the BSOD - in this case the Alps Driver. Perhaps there might be other solutions but I was stymied and this was the only way I could fix it. hope this helps.

There is definitely something wrong with that update file. I followed the same steps (right clicked on the Alps driver and selected remove) and everything updated ok.

Thanks for providing a solution

I have just discovered this forum. I had exactly the same problem with the Alps Pointing Device driver on my Dell XPS 12 Duo running Windows 8.1. After being affected, I restored Windows from an image and installed the Window updates one by one. I can confirm that it is the Alps Pointing Device driver that causes the BSOD System Service Exception error on my machine.

Very annoying. Wasted a lot of time.
