Occasional crashes lately: Event 41, Kernel-Power; Task 64

i've been having occasional crashes only over the past maybe couple of months with no change in hardware. i'm at a loss at to what to do, and i worry about taking it in to where i purchased it due to the randomness of the crashes - fearing they might not find anything wrong, and a continuous cycle begins... :(

i'm running windows 8.1 x64 using a ssd, and have 16 gigs of ram. you can view my entire system in my profile if there is anything specific that may be of help.

i have had my system "system failure" set to write an event, automatically restart and create a small memory dump. unfortunately, no memory dump has ever been generated. is this because i haven't actually had a BSOD? the computer simply crashes/restarts, and will see another entry in the event log stating it was another event 41: kernel-power task category (64) critical event. i honestly haven't been able to figure any logic to the crashes/restarts.

so i don't have a dump to upload.

i did follow the instructions here:
http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

i downloaded the DM Log collector Tool, launched it from my desktop (as admin), and after a while it does say a zipped folder will be located on my desktop... but nothing is actually generated by the tool either.

any assistance would be much appreciated as to how i can first of all provide some helpful data for you to view. i really don't know what i am doing wrong with the DM Log collector Tool :(

thank you very much.

thanks Addictive Gamer! oddly something has seemed to get messed up with my user account folder/libraries *sighs* --- somehow my Desktop folder is in my Pictures folder/library. i'm really not sure what has happened as it looks quite confusing. in the breadcrumbs navigation of the folder structure my Desktop appears as:

Computer > Pictures > Desktop

yet, the actual path to my Desktop is seen as:

C:\Users\Menace97\Desktop

so thank you very much! i did find the zipped file in that bizarre location - so now i can upload my data. i am definitely in need of a fresh install of windows soon it seems... i just am worried about this recent crashing/restarting issue i've had lately. :(

thanks for any help with the data i am uploading - much appreciated!

the plan is to take my rig in for a "tune-up" shortly, hopefully they will be able to find out the source of my issues. i'm guessing it might be the power supply as it appears to be power-related. thanks to anyone that might have any tips as to where to zone in and let them know to check out in particular.

did you check event viewer? see what's cooking right before the kernel error.
Also, try and change your power setting, say from high efficiency to power saving and customize it as you wish.

yeah i check the event viewer quite often, and i can't say i honestly see any pattern. sometimes it happens while i'm playing world of warcraft, but then other times i see it happens in the middle of the night when i'm not doing anything at all (other than the background processes running of course).

and as for the power settings, i have gone to a power saving model and it didn't make a difference unfortunately, so i went back to my higher level, which was never a problem up until a couple of months ago. :(

thanks for your suggestions!

I'm having the same problem, same Kernel Power error, which means only there was interruption of power supply, but doesn't say anything about actual error. I wonder if you have any HW failures like I do, it can be the result of issues. Be careful and backup your data asap otherwise you will face catastrophe as I do at the moment.

My issue here.

Well I've been putting this off too long, and now my main hard drive (SSD) has stopped working for some reason. I cannot reinstall windows on it nor can I restore an Acronis restore as Acronis doesn't see the drive either :(

So it's time for this to go into get repaired for a few things. Hopefully all will be resolved after it gets back from Memory Express.

No unfortunately I didn't. I saw only my other 2 HDDs as options to install to or reformat, so I figured it must be something serious with regard to my SSD. :(

marking as solved! turns out it was a lot more simple than i expected - i should have taken it in to have it checked out earlier, rather than mess around and worry. it was a power issue, but it was the SSD. the company i bought it from simply replaced it and formatted my SSD and mirrored my data from the old drive to the new one, and everything is working perfect now! :) thanks to everyone for the tips and information.
