BSOD While Gaming

Hi All,

This is a brand new build and I'm getting BSOD's while gaming - seems random. Some times games work without issue and sometimes I can only get 5 minutes into them. I have seen this with 3 different games at this point. Doesn't seem to be happening when just normal computing. I have several dump files included in the zip.

I'm seeing these modules error in the dump files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
It's related to Nvidia.
Since you already have latest Nvidia driver what you can try is to disable *all* Nvidia services and just use the plain driver, disconnect from network, disable antivirus, disable all not needed programs and services, and then try to play games.

Additionally you can try to revert to some older driver and test again if the above does not work.

Just checking, you downloaded nvidia driver from bellow link?
NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver for Grand Theft Auto V WHQL

Thanks for the quick reply - I thought it might be related to the Nvidia drivers. I honestly don't recall where I downloaded the most recent drivers. I think it might have been from the MSI site.

How do I go about disabling the Nvidia services? Can I just do a custom install of the drivers w/ no special services added?

Are there any special considerations I should do when uninstalling/reinstalling drivers?

Do you know of any sites that can recommend stable driver releases?

Thanks!!!

To disable services goto:
Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools and open services as Administrator.

To update/install another driver just run the setup file from Nvidia website, or MSI website for your Card model.
If update is not available setup will not work, so in that case you need uninstall current driver in device manager first and then re run setup.

Try testing and provide fresh dumps ( and other info as explained in posting instructions ) in case of new BSOD :)

Hi,

I just uninstalled all the Nvidia drivers and re-installed from the file 350.12-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql from NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver for Grand Theft Auto V WHQL. I did a custom install and only selected the base drivers and none of the add-on (physics/etc).

I was re-reading this thread and had another crash at (On Fri 5/1/2015 6:21:43 PM GMT ) and I wasn't gaming. I believe it was (Kmode_exception_not_handled) please see attached for new dump.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks Again!!!!

Hi,
There doesn't seem to be a single source of problem.
Event log doesn't provide much info except that system crashed.

What I would do is to get some kind of hardware monitor program and watch for temperature, power etc...
Ensure that you assembled your PC correctly.

What you can try first is to run:
Memory test
Hard drive test

I don't think there is a need for CPU test as these errors are much more obvious in dump files.

If there indeed is a problem with driver then driver verifier should be able to catch it:
Driver Verifier

And please continue providing dumps and test results, it could help at least to create a pattern of what could be wrong.

HD and RAM passed.

Driver verifier found no unsigned drivers.. I'll install something to watch temps.

Thanks

Just a side note about driver verifier...

You need to setup driver verifier to monitor selected drivers.
Look at "standard settings" option and select few drivers such as graphics driver and other 3rd party drivers.

So - Within Driver Verifier I selected

Create Standard Settings
Select Driver Names From List
Slected nvlddmkm.sys as it was the only one in the list in the above crashed and rebooted.

I've had several additional crashes as well.

Added the updated file.

Appreciate any suggestions.

The only pattern that occurs regularly is that Windows defender service gets terminated soon after invalid memory reference / execution.
Possible cause could be some application/driver doing bad memory management or there is something trying to disable Windows defender.
If indeed so BSOD will most likely not be able to capture guilty application or driver.
If driver is the cause you will need to enable Driver verifier against 3rd party drivers because Nvidia driver is not the cause.

What I would do is set up DEP and run full system scan with Antivirus + heuristic function enabled and if possible keep the Antivirus for a day or 2 in real time.

To set up DEP (Data execution prevention) follow below link:
Change Data Execution Prevention settings

To run a full scan download some good Antivirus with heuristic function, make an update and run a full scan, then keep if for some time in real time.

Hi,

I've done a full re-install and am still seeing issues. I don't think this is virus related rather a bad driver but I cannot figure out which one.

Any help is greatly appreciated and I've attached new logs.

Another thing to note as well is I have 12 downloads pending for windows update that will not download. They stay at 0KB total. I have tried to stop the Windows Service and rename the SoftwareDistribution folder but it is the same issue as soon as I start the service back up and reboot.
