Black screen

Ive already looked at other threads which contain similar problems to mine but they are not exactly like mine so i need some help. [FONT=Segoe UI, Lucida Grande, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Ive installed windows 8 on my hp touchsmart iq500 and it runs smoothly without any problems, except one big one. When i start up my pc or do a restart it loads up the start screen like normal, but if i leave it without moving my mouse, after about 30 seconds the screen goes completely black and the computer fan starts whirring quite loudly. The screen also goes completely blank if I leave my pc running without opening up a programme or moving the mouse and is stuck like that, ctrl, alt+del doesnt work so i have to manually switch off my pc by holding the power button and rebooting it again.[/FONT][FONT=Segoe UI, Lucida Grande, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]The problem with the screen going black and blank doesnt always happen but its preety consistent with when i load up my pc without moving the mouse or loading up a programme. if i do load a programme the pc seems to work fine. I'd suggest opening a text file in Notepad each time that you startup - and do it by adding a shortcut (to the text file) to your startup menu.
It's a workaround, but it should help while we try to fix this for you.

The usual fix for black screen issues is to update your drivers and programs. I'd especially look for any drivers that have been released for Win8 - or any recently released Win7 drivers.

Please post back with these reports (even though you're not having BSOD's) and we'll see if they suggest anything: http://www.eightforums.com/crashes-debugging/3099-bsod-posting-instructions.html

    has switchable - Intel/ATI - Used wrong drivers, now ATI card is inop :( Will have to fix it soon!

    I'm nearly deaf, so this isn't used often

    Touchscreen on laptop/32" Toshiba on HDMI (laid the Sharp TV on a mouse and cracked the screen!)

    800x600
    Hard Drives
    One Samsung 1tB drive - 5400 rpm. Gonna switch to a 7200/10000 rpm or an SSD (if I can find $500 for a 1tB SSD!)
    - Switched to 500 gB Samsung 840 series SSD - WOW!!!

I had this problem with the customer preview. The fix was to disable the NVidia display driver. Since then I had no problems, although video performance is sluggish. Unfortunately, in the release preview, the screen goes black during setup and there is no way to get in and disable the driver - so I'm stuck on the customer preview until I can find a way around this.
