HP Envy 700 won't boot up. Auto repair tries and then goes to diagnosing your PC. Then to BSOD. Windows 8 upgraded to 8.1. Auto repair log shows winhv.sys and vmbus.sys is corrupt. Unable to restart in safe mode. Performed sfc scannow from command prompt. It said that it fixed things but it didn't. MS said that refresh will not correct the problem. Is there any way to repair those files without reinstalling everything? It also doesn't recognize any previous restore points. Says none exist.

Hi waysco & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

The drivers you have mentioned are part of the Hypervisor (Hyper-V) of Windows. Can you get to Safe Mode? If yes, then kindly follow the below instructions and upload the ZIP file -

If you are able to open up only command prompt then let me know and I will tell you how to get the required files using that method :)

The computer was unable to boot into safe mode. It also wouldn't recognize the USB drives in order to back up or restore from my backups. Automatic repair could not repair. MS chat said I needed to do a total install on it as they said a refresh would not fix and they couldn't solve the problem even if I would have paid them. So, I performed a refresh just to see if it would fix the problem. Alas, it solved the problem and the computer is now working again. I just wish I knew what happened to begin with. Did a deep virus scan with no problems.
