Bsod after windows 8.1 pro reinstall

Hello,

I have a homebuild PC, about a year and a half old, but I'm having issues on it. The reason for my win 8 reinstall was because I had various bsods for a long time since i build my pc. First time I got windows 8.1, I upgraded it from my windows 7, which also had bsods, and later I bought a Samsung SSD and I decided to clone my OS to said SSD. I figured that maybe the cause of my bsods, so I used windows reset to whipe my SSD and reinstall windows 8.1 on it. Maybe it's also usefull to mention that i only whiped my SSD, since there were files backed up on my HDD (including games). But a day after my reinstall, when I installed all my driver, I got a KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED bsod. after some research I found out I forgot to install Intel management engine drivers, so I did that. But today, after some hours doing work on my PC and watching videos, I searched something on google and suddenly I got a new bsod, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
I'm a bit sick of always trying to find what causes those bsod, so I hope someone could help me.
Here are the minidumps and that other file:

Thanks for the help

Edit: okay I've got another bsod, but my pc restarted before it could save the minidump, so I don't have one.

Only 92 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 100 to 130 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available (and didn't experience any errors).

This device is disabled in Device Manager. Is this deliberate? If so, why?
NVIDIA High Definition Audio HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_0044&SUBSYS_38422881&REV_1001\5&1447B4F8&0&0001 This device is disabled.

The BSOD's appear to be either a hardware or an incompatibility issue.
Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Update Microsoft Wireless Mouse and Keyboard software - it dates from 2011

If the diagnostics don't find anything, and the updating of drivers doesn't help - please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

I installed all updates, updated the highlighted drivers and keyboard and mouse software. I didn't experience any bsod's after I did that. I guess I'll wait a bit longer for any issues and if there are I'll proceed with the hardware diagnostics.
Also I deliberately disabled the Nvidia High difinition audio driver. I used to have this problem where my sound stopped working until I restarted my PC. After some searching on the web I found out it had to do with my realtek audio drivers and my nvidia audio driver not working well together. Since I don't use my graphics card for sound I disabled the Nvidia driver and now I don't experience that problem anymore.
I'll let you know when there are more problems
And thanks for the help :)

update: I received another bsod, PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, I'll start the hardware diagnostics
bsod: View attachment 59555

update 2: Okay, I ran memtest without issues, I tested my HDD and my SSD, and I tested my Graphic cards. All these didn't have any errors. However, when I use Prime 95 to test my CPU, my CPU temps skyrocket from around 40-50°C to 100°C as soon when I start the torture test. So I gues that means my CPU is defective? I used HW monitor and RealTemp to monitor my temps and both give the same results.

No it doesn't mean the CPU is defective.
It most likely means that your cooling solution is no longer working properly. When this happens, the system can BSOD (with or without saving a memory dump) or it can just shut down without any indication of what happened. This all depends on which component is causing the shutdown and why it's doing it.

Make sure that all power is disconnected from the case and ground yourself by holding onto the metal of the case.
Then open it up and check (while still holding onto the metal of the case):
- that the case vents aren't clogged
- that there is good, unobstructed airflow to and from the CPU cooler
- that cooler outside air is getting to the CPU (ensure that none of the other devices are spitting their hot exhaust onto the CPU)
- that the CPU cooler is firmly affixed to the motherboard/CPU
- that the CPU cooler is free of dirt/dust/etec
- that there is adequate thermal compound (without being excessive) between the cooler and the CPU
- that the power connections for the CPU (the little 4 pin thing and the huge 20 or 24 pin thing) are properly seated

When done messing around inside the case, plug it into the power and turn it on.
Verify that the case fans and the CPU cooler fan are working and that they are pushing/pulling air in the proper directions..
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE CASE!!!! You must disconnect the power and ground yourself before touching inside the case.

CPU cooler should be blowing air into the cooler from the top
Fans should be drawing air across the case (in most cases from bottom front to top rear). The point here is to balance the airflow (as many fans pulling air into the case as are pushing air out of the case)

Okay so I did as you said, checked every connector and reseating the heatsink/fan of the CPU. I also moved the case fan from the bottom front (where it was when I got the case) to the top, at the back. I turned it around so it will suck the hot air out of the case.

But now I've got a new problem: when I connected my PC to my monitor via DVI, I didn't get a signal... Sometimes the monitor would light up a little but then it went dark again. I tested it on my graphic card and onboard, both not working. I also tested a TV on HDMI, again onboard and on the graphics card, but nevertheless it didn't work.
Then I checked inside the case during startup, and all the fans and leds were working. I also heard a beep, but I'm not sure if that's the particular startup beep or something else, because when I restarted the PC without the onboard speaker connected, I still heard a beep... Also, when I open de DVD drive, it closes right away, and the case fan seems to not spin on the right speed and sometimes even really slow.

I'm pretty sure It hasn't anything to do with my PSU, because I replaced that recently. I tested the RAM and HDD/SSD without issues so I don't think that's the problem either.
What I also should mention is that I once did a failed BIOS update from destkop with MSI Live Update, but my BIOS did boot again so i had the chance to do a update from the BIOS itself. Maybe it could be that it still did some damage to my motherboard?

Ok I posted my problems in the hardware forums and it seems they are fixed, but today I got another BSOD, after 4 days since I fixed the hardware issue. It occured when I was watching a youtube video.

My CPU temps now are 70-80°C on full load when using the stress test application from Intel, designed for Haswell processors. Normal temps range from around 30 - 40°C. During gaming I get 60°C.

How long do I need to run those stress tests for GPU and CPU? It seems not safe to leave my PC when running one of those tests.
Here is the crash dump file: View attachment 60104
edit: I got another one, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (Wdf01000.sys)

2nd attachment is there - could you repost it?

Do not leave the computer unattended when running the stress tests.
As I recall, the CPU test is fairly quick to run, while the GPU test takes a bit longer.
The things that you're looking for are:
- for the temps to level off (if they don't, then there's an overheating problem)
Don't let the CPU get above 90ºC and don't let the GPU get above 100ºC
- if the temps stay below the above range, then look for problems with the system when running them.
You can also run Prime95 (which stresses different parts of the CPU and motherboard).
Again, watch the temps and watch for problems with the system.
When in doubt - shut it off!!!

Update your Intel Smart Connect drivers from the MSI website: MSI USA - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more (7th one down in the Drivers tab)
Also update your Intel Extreme Tuning Utility drivers (it's the 4th one down in the Utilities tab): MSI USA - Computer, Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Mainboard, Graphics and more
While you're there, update your other drivers/utilities just to be sure.
You have the latest version of the BIOS/UEFI, so don't worry about that.

If the BSOD's continue after updating the drivers, please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Hello,

I didn't have any bsod's untill today, so I'm here to post my latest one.
Error: Unexpected_kernel_mode_trap ndis.sys
View attachment 60835
I think it has something to do with my network driver/card, since I was using popcorn time to stream a movie when the crash happened.

Where did you get this memory dump from? It does not use the normal naming convention.

Please run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings
The BSOD does show a crash in a Windows network driver - but this may or may not be significant.

Run Driver Verifier, then update the networking drivers.
If BSOD's recur, then run Driver Verifier again.

Hello

I got that bsod by copying it first from the minidump directory to my desktop, than compressing it into a zipfile. I think something went wrong and maybe it changed my dumpfile's name?

Anyways, I ran driver verifier and my pc crashed 2 times, each time during startup, so I was forced to use safe mode and disable verifier.
Here are the dumps:
View attachment 61153
The error codes are IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
edit: Also, if I go to the MSI site for a driver update for the network NIC, I find out that I already got the latest version.
Maybe I should go to the site of the NIC manufacturer for an update?

I would suggest:
- download the latest network driver from the MSI website
- uninstall the current driver and software from your system
- reboot
- then install the freshly downloaded driver package

The memory dumps don't appear to be Driver Verifier Enabled memory dumps. In cases like this that means that it's either a hardware issue or a Windows issue (as we asked you to only verify 3rd party drivers). We can probably rule out Windows as a problem as you've reinstalled WIndows and the BSOD's haven't stopped. That leaves us with hardware problems as the most likely issue here.

BUT, I've been watching the MBfilt64.sys driver for a long time now (due to it's age) - yet it hasn't been blamed in any BSOD's until now.
I have to wonder about this driver due to it's presence in many BSOD's since 2009.
I'd first suggest uninstalling the software for your sound card and physically removing the sound card from the system (only temporarily until you determine if it's to blame or not).
If you can't physically remove it from the system, then disable it in the UEFI/BIOS.
If you can't disable it in the UEFI/BIOS, then disable it in Device Manager - but be aware that the driver will still load when the system starts.

If removing the sound card doesn't fix things, then we'll have to try this procedure: Hardware Stripdown Troubleshooting
Good luck!

Hello,

So first I disabled the onboard HD audio device in the BIOS, and uninstalled Realtek Audio driver. I ran Driver Verifier and still got some BSOD's during startup. I disabled Driver verifier. After that I downloaded the latest killer network LAN drivers (without the manager), uninstalled the current network driver, rebooted and installed the new driver. I ran driver verifier and still got bsod's on startup.

Then I enabled my audio device and reinstalled the driver.
I decided to just disable the LAN device in BIOS and rebooted. I tried driver verifier again and got no bsods anymore...
Couldn't it be that my onboard LAN device is the culprit? Maybe I need to run driver verifier a bit longer to make sure of that?
If not, I guess I'll start the hardware troubleshooting, I've already tested my RAM, HDD and SSD last month without any errors, so do I need to do that again?

Here are some BSOD's (if you need them):

It's very possible (and, IMO, very likely) that the onboard LAN is the culprit.
Unfortunately, there are no tests for this - other than to disable the device and see if that helps.

If you need a wired LAN connection, try installing another LAN card. They're fairly inexpensive and it's a good idea to have a spare around "just in case".

As for retesting - I wouldn't suggest it right now. Let's see how the LAN card thing works out and then move on from there.
Good luck!

Ok, it's again been a month, I installed a new network card and had no bsods, until last week. I got 4 bsods, two without dumpfile, and two with a dumpfile, but the last one without a bugcheck string (according to bluescreen view)? I got the last BSOD when I was AFK so I couldn't read the error message.
The third one was an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL dxgmms1.sys. I updated my video driver trying to solve this error.
Here are both dumpfiles: View attachment 62303
