    random "kernel data inpage error" BSOD on Lenovo Y50


    I'm having "kernel data inpage error" on this computer almost from the beginning. It seems to occur randomly (totally 6 times): watching video, reading pdf, working in 3d modeling program, playing a game, browsing internet. I've read some posts earlier and tried this:

    1. run CHKDSK, nothing found
    2. run MEMCHECK, nothing found
    3. run some WD diagnostic tool for hard drives, nothing found
    4. updated bios and chipset to newest drivers (downloaded from manufacturers website)
    5. installed management engine interface driver (downloaded from manufacturers website)

    I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-

    The requested page of kernel data could not be read in. Typically caused by a bad block in the paging file or disk controller error.
    Arg1: fffff6fb40000618, lock type that was held (value 1,2,3, or PTE address)
    Arg2: ffffffffc000003f, error status (normally i/o status code)

    ADDITIONAL_DEBUG_TEXT:  Memory Manager detected corruption of a pagefile page while performing an in-page operation. The data read from storage does not match the original data written. This indicates the data was corrupted by the storage stack, or device hardware.

    Kindly follow the below steps -

    1. Please open an elevated command prompt (cmd.exe) and then type in the below command -
      CHKDSK /F /R
    2. Kindly remove Comodo till the time we are troubleshooting using this **TOOL** and turn on Windows Defender.
    3. Please perform the Hard Disk Diagnostics from this **LINK** and report back the results.

    Apart from doing three above steps, should I:

    a. backup hard drive data on another drive?
    b. update all drivers from the links above?

    Ok, I turned on Windows Defender and results are:

    chkdsk: found no problems
    WD Data LifeGuard Diagnostics: pass

    This disk (1TB+8GB SSHD) frequently starts and stops spinning (I hear it). When it starts to spin it cause a lag (noticable during gaming, for example). I don't know if it is normal behaviour. I've seen on some forums, that people are not happy with this disk.

    Also, all six BSODs happened in about week intervals in a time when windows defragmentation is scheduled. Maybe it has something to do with it. (I turned off automatic defrag now so I'll see next tuesday-thursday if BSODs will happen).

    But still I may be wrong. Thanks for helping me with it.

    Hi Shahmatt ^_^,

    Yes, I suggest backing up the data to another disk so that even if something goes wrong, you would have the backup.

    Did you check if there are any updates available for the SSHD?
    Also, did you remove Comodo?

    I uninstalled Comodo before doing any disk tests.

    On Lenovo support site there was no sshd drivers.

    On WD site there was a driver WDBoost, I tried to install it, but installer failed to find any sshd drive.

    I recommend using SeaTools DOS, it could be an incomatibility with your storage controller, or your drive is failing (most likely the latter).

    SeaTools for DOS haven't found hard drives so I installed SeaTools for Windows.

    There, there is something like Fix All > Fast or Long tests. But it is written that those test (long) can repair only Seagate/Maxtor drive (mine is WD).

    Okay, so it's most likely a storage controller problem, what is yours set to? If you're using Seatools DOS it should be set to IDE.
    You should run the Short and Long Generic tests, you are correct in that the fix options only work on Seagate drives.

    In BIOS, SATA controller is set to AHCI, there is also option IDE. Should I change it to IDE to work under Win8 correctly?
