Solved BSOD, random crashes, PSU, Memory or other cause?

Hi folks,

My computer crashes randomly, sometimes when i'm using, sometimes when i'm not. When I do see it crash, it's always a BSOD that happens when I'm multitasking on intensive websurfing, and applications. Some examples, would be Virtual Box or Photoshop (it's not isolated to a single application) and other applications open. However, I've also noticed that the computer might restart when I'm away from it, even if there's hardly anything open.... Annoying.

My computer is an AMD FX 8035, 8 core. 16GB Ram.... Windows 8.1

To look into this, to date, I've tried updating all the drivers within my computer. I've also ran a Windows Ram test, which came up clean

I've attached the documents / zip file that's been requested of this forum. You can also view a screen shot of my event log here:

And BluescreenView here:

Thanks for your help!

BlueScreenView shows many different BSOD errors and most blame the kernel (core of the operating system).
Usually when this happens it's indicative of a hardware (or even a low-level driver) problem.
Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

Interestingly, the rbyyni.sys driver doesn't show any search results on Google, nor does it appear in the MSINFO32 report. As such I have to wonder if it's an infection or not. Be sure to run the malware diagnostics listed on the Hardware Diagnostics page.
Code:
2: kd> lm vm rbyyni
start end module name

As for the Event Viewer, Event ID 41 errors are simply Windows way of telling you that it doesn't know why it shut down (more info on this Event ID here: Windows Kernel event ID 41 error "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first" in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2

While waiting for a reply, please monitor your temps with this free utility: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

It looks like you sorted the Event Viewer output by clicking on the Level column - is that true?
Also, there's only 69 events listed - have you been using cleaning software such as CCleaner? If so, please stop while we troubleshoot.

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

I don't expect it to show us much more information (due to the large number of Critical/Event ID 41 errors. But you never know until you look at the reports.

Your UEFI/BIOS dates from 2012. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the UEFI/BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard. If possible, use the "inside Windows" flash mechanism (if your OEM provides one) - that is much more forgiving than the traditional (floppy drive) flash method.

On my system I disabled the VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter in Device Manager. I can't recall the exact problem that I was having, but it did increase the stability of my system (I did this almost a year ago, and it's still disabled). Worst case, you can always re-enable it.

You have 3 hard drives. What is the make/model/wattage and age of your Power Supply?

Out of 26 memory dumps there were 8 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case. Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

Please get a head start on the hardware diagnostics - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

Actions taken / Info requested
- no overclocking at all
- updated bios. however, the latest version for this board, v4 is also from 2012. there's no notes on gigbytes site about what changed from version to version. the mb is GA-78LMT-USB3
- installed a usb driver recommended for the board
- windows defender scan, malware bytes scan (quick scans). Malwarebytes did a full scan last night and didn't find anything. Also did a bitdefender IE scan
- all updates for windows 8.1 have been installed (previously)
- blew out system/case with air
- installed hardware monitor, I've also been looking at temps for the last few weeks, things look a-ok, no heating issues
- Memtestx86 - 12 hour scan, ran a few nights ago - http://i.imgur.com/pf12b2s.jpg
- Prime95 - I barely started this and got several fatal errors - http://i.imgur.com/AGBVEKO.png

Event viewer
I tried to follow these instructions - Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).
Yet - I could not export the whole log as reguested. When I click on custom view I get this error
http://i.imgur.com/pVO4f7w.pngWhen I try to save the file - I get this error

Failures/errors in Prime95 usually indicate RAM/Memory Controller/CPU problems
The memory controller is included in the AMD FX 8035 processor
Also, a system can pass MemTest86+ and still fail Prime95 due to RAM problems
Please note that the MemTest86+ results show 1 error

Steps I suggest:
- run all 3 Prime95 tests in quick succession (Blend, Large FFT's, and Small FFT's)
All we need to know is in which order the failures/errors occur quickest and slowest (for all 3 tests) - some may fail and others may not fail
Then run some of the CPU stress tests from here: Hardware Diagnostics

I suspect that this is a RAM problem - are you able to safely remove RAM sticks (one at a time) and then test the remaining sticks (both with MemTest86+ and with Prime95)? Once you determine the sticks that pass the tests, then use one of those to test each of the slots with both MemTest86+ and Prime95.

There were video driver problems in the Event Viewer log, so we'll look at that next (if it's needed).

Usually the event viewer error is this problem:
Error in Event Viewer (DxpTaskRingtone) - how to fix:
1. Back up registry (set a System Restore point).
2. Right click on Start.
3. Choose 'Run'.
4. Type "regedit" (without quotation marks)
5. Choose 'Yes' when you're prompted by UAC.
6. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels\
7. Right click on folder: Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic
8. Choose 'Delete' and then 'Yes'.
9. Close Registry Editor and restart your computer.
This is from this topic: Error in Event Viewer (DxpTaskRingtone) after upgrading to - Microsoft Community
It's not necessary to fix it as you were able to get enough of the report for us to have a look at.

According to this link: microsoft-windows-dxptaskringtone/analytic the system cannot find - Microsoft Community
This particular logfile has been deprecated and is no longer available in Win8.1

CPU?

Hi John,

I switched out the ram with the ram of another system - as to test the ram hypothesis, and I quickly ran the prime95 tests. I'm wondering if we can confirm this as a CPU problem - let me know what you think?

I also completed a Hot Cpu 4 test

- look at the drop on the +12V area... is this indicative of a PSU issue?

So, which errors came fastest and which were slowest to come in Prime95?
FYI - this isn't a very exact test, and the results vary greatly depending on how far apart the tests are run.

It looks like Large FFT's and Small FFT's error'd out almost immediately
But the Blend test took about 6 seconds to fail.
Since the Blend test stress' the RAM more than the other 2, I'd suspect that the RAM was not to blame here.
Add to this the fact that the Hot CPU 4 test shows an error with the CPU - and I'd have to blame the CPU

Try more CPU tests to help confirm that the problem is with the CPU.
But in the end the ultimate test is to replace the CPU. Purchase the CPU from a place that will let you return it if it's not needed (if the errors recur).

I'd also post over in the hardware forums for advice about your PSU before replacing the CPU.

Thanks again for the help. I returned the cpu to AMD, and they sent a replacement. All the tests now execute without the same errors.
Cheers,
