Frequent freezing/random restarts, old system w/ Win 8.1

New user here looking for some help. I've got an old system (Dell E1505) running Win 8.1 that has been hanging up randomly. Sometimes it just freezes, other times it will prompt an automatic restart.

I can't tie it to anything specific, but it has been happening with greater frequency--now often within 10 min of powering up. At first I thought it may be overheating, but I cleaned out the fan and heat sink with no improvement.

I'm trying to get a few more months out of this thing, would appreciate any help.

if you are experiencing this problem first please check your hardwares meeting this

• Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)
• RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
• Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
• Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver.
• check this In the BIOS ...You have got these configuration.

Thanks for the reply. The hardware does meet those requirements--2.3 Ghz processor 64 bit, 4gb ram, plenty of hard drive space, and the graphics card is an ATI x1400 which can handle direct x 9.

I've heard of others running win 8.1 with similar build and I had no problem with win 8. Even 8.1 was running well until recently.

Now beofre doing any troubleshooting please run the Hardware Test because it can be your Hard drive problem
in order to run the Hardware test restart the computer and when you see the Dell Logo keep Tapping F12 key
You will get One time Boot Menu
You need to select the Option "Diagnostics"
once it would start it would take atleaset 5 mini. and it will run a test on all the Hardware
if there is any Hardware which is causing a problem it would show you an error massage and tell you peticular part is bad

If all the Hardwares are okay than you will get massage
No problem found would you like to run Memory Test
At that time you can ext from there
do not run the Memory Test

If any part is bad ,.. change that part if all the parts are okay
then you need to troubleshoot the problem in safe mode
I'll guide You. First you need to run this test and check your Hardwares and let me know if all the Hardwares are okay..
