BSOD starting with games but now more often

The BSODs started when I was playing graphically intensive games (downloaded through Steam, such as Everquest2 or Borderlands2) every so often (Sidebar--I've crashed recently trying to play Dragon Age Origins, a game that I've played previously with no trouble at all on this computer around 2 months back), but now they've gotten to the point where sometimes the computer trying to use Firefox or even just on the log-in screen before I even try entering my password. I've tried to look at the minidump reports and see what's wrong with them via WhoCrashed, but unfortunately it seems that they aren't always created. Especially since I know I've crashed many more times than the minidumps seem to appear.

Also, many times that the computer restarts (either automatically after a crash, a hard restart, or turning on after I shut down the computer) the Bios screen appears automatically. Quite a few times after I select "Save changes and exit" it'll come up with the Bios screen again. Additionally, the Asus loading screen may come up and stay loading for a couple minutes when loading, something which only took a few seconds in the past. There was also one time yesterday after a crash where the sound wouldn't work due to some sort of error.

I've ran scans from MalwarebytesAntiMalware as well as Avast Antivirus and the already installed Windows Protector scan and came back with nothing significant. I have a weekly defragment on my computer. I've ran the S.M.A.R.T. test and was told that the state of my computer was good, as well as ran Seagates long test to check for errors and came back with nothing (although the first two times I tried running it, the computer crashed within the first 10 minutes).

I'm copy/pasting the WhoCrashed data in case that proves useful.

Thank you for your assistance :)

Hi and thanks for responding!

When the issues with the BSOD started and the laptop started acting funky, I looked up and saw something that said that disabling some stuff would help. I had thought that those wouldn't have that much of an impact (apparently I was wrong?) I remember thinking that the SMART stuff dealt with the smartboard software I had installed when I got the computer in February but hadn't used for a while.

Unfortunately, the issues seem to have progressed, since the laptop is not going into the login screen since around noon. It either goes into the Bios menu, into the Asus loading screen for a long while and then leading to a bsod and then a crash (error is something like invalid boot something), or going into Asus automatic repair, which ends up seemingly not fixing things and leading me into a blue screen telling that it's not able to fix my problem, and I can restart or go into advanced options. I went into the advanced options and tried refreshing the pc, but it didn't do anything. I'm loathe to do the other option it gave (which was something like reloading Windows which deletes all the files) since I'm not fond of the idea of all the files on my computer that I hadn't backed up to an external hard drive being lost. I will concede to the fact that not being able to use the computer and forking over money for another one is more loathe to me.

I'm pretty sure that I'm not OCing unless I did that on accident. (would that be why when I go into task manager the disk percentage is often high?) And if/when the computer let's me log in again, I'll try to uninstall the bloat ware as well as enable those drivers.

EDIT: Huzzah! Computer let me in again. And there was one additional crash report in WhoCrashed. Though I know I crashed multiple times. And once I figure out how to enable those drivers again (they weren't in the task manager like I had thought...because I know I disabled stuff there but can't remember anything else [yet]) I'll get one of those files that we're supposed to put in the OP.

But for now...

On Fri 1/9/2015 9:04:56 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\memory.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: Unknown (0xFFFFD0002F1379E0)

I've uninstalled the SMART and the Cisco programs since i didn't use them anyway (and haven't, since Marchish), so those should be not a problem now. I'm not sure if I've uninstalled all the bloatware, but I did uninstall programs that I noticed and was sure I didn't use. The ones that I was iffy on I left.

Something else of note--I've crashed a couple times again, and the minidumps seem to have disappeared! Now that may be because of CCleaner that I ran as well, but something to note.

And RE: computer adapter..like the power cord? I'm still using the one that came with the laptop.
OH. The VGA adapter? I don't use that anymore. Nor have I used it since like late Feb.

But WhoCrashed has another 2 crash datas to speak of below. And I've attached the file thing as well.

OK. Let's see. As this is a laptop, I strongly suspect that there is a higher clock due to the turbo mode or something like that being enabled. You haven't uninstalled Asus bloatware AiCharger.sys is still present, just as the rest of them. Uninstall that. OK, at this point I would ask you to create a system restore point and then enable Driver Verifier - BSOD related - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 & Vista - Sysnative Forums
Note: If Driver Verifier detects an issue, it will cause a BSOD. If that happens, upload a new minidump file
Stop using CCleaner as it deletes dump files, and therefore makes our job way harder.
Thanks.

I've deleted more of those programs. I have to admit, I'm rather unsure of which ones of the Asus programs are useless and which are useful, especially since some of them sound like they'd have some use (like the multitouch on the track pad program).

But I did go through the steps on the link you provided and I didn't BSOD at all during the process.

Uninstall software related to the drivers in red. Keep the Driver Verifier running, and keep me posted in case you receive another BSOD.

Hi again.

So I think I've gotten rid of those drivers (at the very least, I don't see any of them in C:\Windows\System32\drivers anymore). Unfortunately, when I logged on this morning I had a BSOD (which didn't seem to give a minidump file). I do think that the error message was Critical_Process_Died.

I have been continuing to go trough the Verifier steps and haven't had a BSOD with that.

Nope. Still there...
Run these two: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - Windows 7 Help Forums
Disk Check - Windows 7 Help Forums
And please look for any Asus installed software as I can still see it in drivers.

Hi again.

So I did get rid of ALL ASUS programs, from multiple askances from my boyfriend telling me that I should even with my extreme resistance and extreme displeasure and confusion on why I have to get rid of Asus Smart Gesture which provides the multitouch ability to the touchpad, something I am very frustrated and annoyed about having to do without. So if the thing comes back saying that somehow those drivers which you're focusing on are still installed, I may just scream from frustration. And it may, seeing as the one dealt with j5 software that I had uninstalled.

Some interesting stuff happened when restarting after uninstalling those programs. The first time there was an issue with the wifi--it wouldn't register anything and wouldn't work. So a reboot. The second time, I logged in fine but was met with a black screen for the couple minutes that I left it on. The next reboot led me to a screen telling me that windows wasn't working. There was also one that just had a black screen when I tried turning it on. And at some point it turned on to the bios screen. So after I let it sit turned off while i do something else, It did turn on correctly.

SO yesterday had some crashes, apparently. I do have a question. Why are we focusing on those drivers you have highlighted in red and Asus software when these seem to indicate a problem with ntoskrnl.exe and ntdll.sys ? I had also got a BSOD from fileinfo.sys yesterday at 8:18

Error code: (NTSTATUS) 0xc000003f (3221225535) - {Bad CRC} A cyclic redundancy check (CRC) checksum error occurred.

//A CRC failed, this was the reason for the crash

A CRC is a method of checking the data for corruption, it does this using polynominal division. In the simplist of terms, the data will be checked by using an algorithm to divide the data by a specific number. Let's say for example, we divide 54 by 5; this would give us 10 and 4 left over, so the 4 is used to check for any errors within the data, any other numbers would result in corrupt data.
So given this data is already corrupt when it is being brought into memory, it's almost certainly a failing drive.
You need to replace the drive, it's failing.

If you really want to be sure, you can run SeaTools DOS on the drive (short and long generic tests).
The storage controller will probably need changing to IDE/SATA mode in order for SeaTools DOS to detect the drive. If it needs changing from AHCI, make sure you change it back to boot into Windows.

I think I was a bit too harsh with my last post, and I would like to apologize for that. I was feeling frustrated and instead of cooling down as I usually do, I just posted it right away.

I've done the SeaTools long generic test (though I notice I misspelled it in the OP), but it didn't come up with anything, which made me think it may be something else. But now I suppose it is the hard drive going bonkers. Thank you both for commenting.

I'm sorry I missed your post. We are were focusing on driver because these files you mention are the system files and not the cause of your issue :) Mysers analysed it even deeper than myself and got to the conclusion that the HD is failing. I'd suggest scanning it with HD Tune and posting SS of the Health and Error scan tab.

I do have a question. Why are we focusing on those drivers you have highlighted in red and Asus software when these seem to indicate a problem with ntoskrnl.exe and ntdll.sys ?

To answer your question..

ntdll.dll is a special system support library for dynamic link libraries.
It exposes entry points for the Windows system services, (or native API). Most of which are callable from User Mode by using the Windows API, some of which are not, and only used by the operating system. Most Windows system services are undocumented, and therefore must be called by the Windows API. The native API is used primarly for applications in user mode that aren't supported by the Windows API, this is due to the boot time of the applications. The Windows API is exported through csrss.exe, the Client/Server Runtime Subsystem; this application is executed by the session manager, which both have to use the native API as the Windows API hasn't been initiated yet.

ntoskrnl.exe is the Windows Kernel system image; this is split into two parts, the Windows Executive (Upper part) and the Windows Kernel (Lower part).
There is a lot to cover with the Windows Kernel, I won't go into much detail as it is a very lengthy subject.

The Windows Executive contains the Windows system services, which are callable from user mode, and exported through ntdll.dll. These services are callable through the Windows API, or any other Windows environment subsystem APIs (such as POSIX and OS/2).

Callable functions from Kernel mode which are documented in the WDK, functions that start with the Ke prefix.
Callable functions from Kernel mode which are undocumented.
Internal support fuctions such as ones that begin with Mi (memory internal) and Iop (Internal Input Output)
As well as major components, including managers.
