Hey guys,

After updating every driver I can find and doing a fresh install of windows 8.1 Pro, I am still having problems with WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE ERROR.

I have also updated my BIOS and ran sfc scan, memtest, stress tested my CPU and GPU and ran chkdsk.

Can anyone take a look at my crash dump and tell me what's going wrong?

SF Debug: View attachment 56123

SF Diagnostic: View attachment 56124

I've noticed the crash address has changed since last time so maybe its something different?

Thanks in advance,

MJB

The dump file says that the system has experienced a failure in writing data to the L0 Cache of the CPU. Given that you are still facing problems after a clean install, I would say that it is a failing CPU. But, before I can confirm it, I would require more dump files because the ZIP file contained only 1 dump file and for 0x124, we need multiple dumps to check the pattern.

Also, kindly run the below CPU Diagnostics and report back with any errors if found and the temperature while your system is idle and under load (thanks usasma) -

Prime95 download site:
GIMPS - Free Prime95 software downloads - PrimeNet
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight please run the "Small FFTs" test instead. (run all 3 if you find a problem and note how long it takes to error out with each)
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
Monitor the CPU temperature and DON'T let it exceed 85ºC. If it does, then you probably have a CPU cooling problem.
- CPU temps exceeding 60ºC can cause errors in Prime95. Fix the cooling solution first, then run Prime95 again.
This won't necessarily crash the system - but check the output in the test window for errors.
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.
NOTE: Errors should be considered when:
- the system BSOD's during Prime95
- the system freezes during Prime95 (this is different than the extreme slowness caused by the program using all your RAM and CPU)
- the Prime95 program crashes
- the Prime95 program shows errors in it's display
- there are errors in the Prime95 results file
More details on the use of this test: Torture test your CPU with Prime95

Also run the Intel Burn Test from the below link -
IntelBurnTest - The new stress-testing program

Let me know how it goes ^_^.

Hello,

Thankyou for the response,

I ran IntelBurnTest and it said it was stable without any problems.

I have already ran Memtest which passed 16 times, so I ran the "Small FFT" test on Prime 95 for 15 hours until I manually stopped it, it survived the night without any blue screens or issues.

I would like to add that I am running the latest version of my BIOS, running all components at stock settings.

I did have more dmp files to share but deleted them with Ccleaner a couple of weeks ago. From looking at them with BlueScreenViewer they all looked the same, I noticed playing Battlefield 4 seems to make it crash in this way. (It crashes from time to time anyway, but it happens more when I play BF4)

I will attempt to get some more crashes to upload.

When it does BSOD, there is a loud static noise until the computer turns off.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks,

MJB

I am using a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler and 2 extra Corsair case fans for cooling.

A company built my PC for me and I haven't touched any of the components inside since receiving the PC.

Temps are EXTREMELY high. Please try using another software just to check. How long ago was this PC put together? Is it clean of dust?

Like Mihael has said, the temperatures are extremely high. Although the other components are at regular temperatures so first check your CPU Cooling. Try placing a table fan directly at the CPU and see if you are still getting such high temperatures or not.

Following your suggestion, I ran IntelBurnTest again but this time using SpeedFan to monitor the temps.

It showed similar idle temps, but under stress, the CPU only reached a maximium of around 55/56C

View attachment 56207

I'm ignoring the 100C+ values, they were still showing 100c even at idle.

Even after leaving Prime95 running for 15 hours, where HWMonitor showed a CPU reading of 99C, the PC did not feel hot. The fans were spinning faster as they usually do during CPU stress, but was definitely staying cool.

Do you think the 99C reading from HWMonitor is just a bug?

The PC was put together around 3 months ago, inside the case there is a little bit of dust, but not anything major, I can still see all of the components clearly.

Should I use different monitoring software instead?

Thanks,

MJB

RealTemp, Speccy...

Don't suggest RealTemp since it contains the WinRing Libraries which are very famous to cause problems.

I use CoreTemp - Core Temp

WARNING - Do not touch the hardware part even if the software is showing any temperature. Usasma (An esteemed member of the forums) got 2nd Degree burns because the software was showing a much lower temperature so always be careful.

Alrighty,

First of all I would like to apologise for the delayed response.

I ran IntelBurnTest while using CoreTemp to monitor with.

View attachment 56291
The temps averaged at around 70-80C, not changing too much.

However, towards the end of each individual pass of the IntelBurnTest, the temps of all 4 cores instantly spiked up to 95-100C for about 2 seconds, then returned back to the average values.

This is very different from the constant 99C that I was reading from HWMonitor.

Next up I ran the Prime95 Blend test, also using CoreTemp to monitor with.
View attachment 56292
These temps never spiked up to 99C, they stayed around the values you can see on screen, fluctuating a little.
I would like to note that when doing this, my PC randomly restarted without a blue screen in the middle of the test.

Any advice on what to do next?

Hi OfficiallyMJB ^_^,

You did not get any error while running both the tests right? Could you please place a table fan at the motherboard directly and see if the system still crashes while being used normally?

Also, please run the SF Diagnostics Tool and upload the latest ZIP File so that I can take a look at the newest dump files.

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Hello,

I will attach my latest Diagnostics zip, I would like to add there is one dmp that differs from the others.

View attachment 56479

After getting my usual WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSOD whilst editing some video footage, my PC automatically restarted.
I attempted to shut it down normally and the display turned off, but my computer was still running.
After around 10 minutes of this is restarted itself and booted to the windows 8 login screen.
However, my keyboard and mouse were not recognised so I was unable to login.

I had this problem before I reinstalled windows but it has only just returned now. The keyboard and mouse are fully functional in BIOS, but it appears to be random if they work in windows or not. If not I just keep rebooting/ resetting bios settings to default until it works.

This happened around the time of the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE error. I couldn't see a blue screen or anything because my PC stopped outputting a display when I attempted to shut it down.

Back to my original error though, after a couple more of these BSOD's, I took off the side panel to my case and placed a table fan like so:

Then I ran IntelBurnTest using Core Temp to monitor with.

Then I ran Prime95 using Core Temp to monitor:

The temps maxed out at these values over the course of running Prime95 for around 10 minutes.

I have noticed that the temps only spike up to 99C temporarily during IntelBurnTest if that helps.

I will continue to run my PC normally with the fan in position like so and report back on any problems.

Thanks,

MJB

Even for a stress test, those temperatures are way too high. I wouldn't be surprised if your CPU hasn't been damaged.
You need to lower those temperatures.
Are you overclocking?
Is there sufficient airflow?
Have you removed the thermal paste and applied some new paste?

My CPU and RAM are running at stock settings, no overclocking.

I would say the airflow is good, especially with a fan aimed at the motherboard, but I have 2 extra case fans on top.

As for the thermal paste, I didn't build the PC, I bought it from a reputable company who put it together for me.
I agree with you that this could be the cause of the problem, I will definitely look into this.

Thanks,

Martin.

Are you getting BSODs even after placing the table fan? If you are still facing the WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR, then as Mysers has mentioned in his post, it is possible that the CPU has already been damaged permanently.

Keep us posted on how it goes ^_^

Hey guys,

I can confirm now that the system still blue screens even with the table fan aimed inside the case towards the motherboard.

I'm going to visit the company and drop off my PC to get it checked out as its still under warranty, hopefully if I tell them about the problems they'll understand!

Thanks for the help guys.
