Critical Event 41. The system has not shut down cleanly...

I have this question before I consider this an actual issue.

Because I'm an Amateur Radio Operator I shut down all power to the PC and other accessories
at the main power strip. Important to mention that I only turn the main power off AFTER
the PC has turned off the blue power light indicator on the front of the unit.

I know that Windows 8 when you "shut down" the system actually does NOT fully shut off and remains
partially powered almost like sleep. Could it be that shutting off the power main causes this error to occur?

Yes it's possible. FWIW - it will give you an Event ID 41 error if you hold the power button down to turn the system off. See the link below (on Event ID 41 errors) for more information.

Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

FYI I do NOT use the physical power button to shut down the system, I use the Windows "shut down" selection.

I have done a dskchk.,scf/scannow, and Dell complete Diagnostic and no violations have been found. This is a BRAND NEW PC and I have barely used it.
One thing that stood out when I first got it was that I was receiving errors from the Atheros Bluetooth USB when the PC resumed from sleep. I was able to correct them when I reinstalled the Dell Wireless Suite, with the only issue remaining being an indication that a bluetooth keyboard would not be usable in the BIOS.



PC is Dell Inspiron 3847 with Core i5-4460 , 8GB, 1 TB using the Intel onboard 4600 graphics.

I understood that you did not use the power button to shut down Windows - BUT, I wonder what removing the power does to the low power state that Win8 goes into? Could that do the same thing as using the power button to shut down Windows? I haven't had a chance to research that, but will see if I can have a look at it today at work.

FWIW - each bootup had a failure that I think is due to the method that you use to shutdown the system. If that is the case, then you won't get the benefits of fast startup and might as well just disable that.

Brand new PC's can have problems - even when just opening the box. I once purchased a motherboard that had a dying CMOS battery - it took me forever to figure that one out! I've also see several systems come out of the box with dead/dying hard drives.

Nothing revealing in the Event Viewer log - so I'd first suspect the Fast Startup stuff.
Once that's shut off, should the problems continue, then we'll have to look further into this.

My guess was that somehow removing all power from the system was causing this.

So I should disable the fast start up option?

I'll give that a try and let you know what happens in the next couple of days.
