Windows 8.1 BSOD After Sleep [Attached zip included]

Greetings,

As the title mentions, I recently experienced a BSOD on my Windows 8.1 x64 installation a few seconds after having waking it from sleep mode. The error displayed was KERNEL_APC_PENDING_DURING_EXIT. I am curious as to what this relates, from what I could tell from my research it is software related, most likely third party software? Either that or related to the hybrid boot/fast startup feature new to the OS?

My rig is two months old, and this is the second time in this time spam that I've experienced this issue, only when waking the PC from sleep.

My specs:
GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK
i5 4690k (no overclock)
Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB Superclocked
Corsair Vengenace Pro 8GB @2133mhz CL9
Seagate SSHD 1TB 7200rpm 64mb
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB

Any input is appreciated!

Please uninstall Gigabyte's EasyTune (etdrv.sys) and EasySaver (gdrv.sys) - both drivers date from 2009, may not be compatible w/Win8.1, and are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems. Also, please uninstall the Gigabyte On/Off Charger (AppleCharger.sys) - while not as prone to BSOD's as the previous 2, it has been known to cause them on some systems.

Please update your BitDefender protection to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version. If unable to do this, then please remove it temporarily to see if that helps (make sure that Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are enabled after uninstalling BitDefender).

Thank you so much for your reply usasma!

I'm uninstalling the drivers you mentioned now. What do you mean about updating bitdefender to W8 version? The TotalSecurity 2015 version is compatible with W8 and 8.1 according to their website.

EDIT: I couldn't find EasySaver (gdrv.sys) in add or remove programs nor in processes or services. Isn't this related to EasyTune? I uninstalled the other two.

I analyze these things by the date of the drivers. As for the BitDefender drivers - some of them date from before Windows 8. If you're sure that your version is compatible w/Win8.1, then that's all that we can ask.

As for Easy Tune - don't worry about it for now. If it's still a problem (if you continue to get BSOD's with it showing in the memory dumps), then I can provide instructions on how to manually remove it.

We'll see how it goes and will try other things if the BSOD's continue.

Good luck!

I uninstalled Easy Tune and On/Off Charge, so the only one not present is Easy Saver. Will post here after I see how it goes.

Thanks again for your help mate, I'm usually sort of paranoid with these sort of things and end up reinstalling Windows all-together. Good to know I can solve it step by step this way without it being so tedious.

Just FYI - There are 3 different things that can cause BSOD's:
- 3rd party drivers (over 90% of BSOD's are due to this)
- hardware (less than 10% of BSOD's are due to this)
- Windows problems (less than 1% of BSOD's are due to this - as long as Windows Updates are fully up to date).

In most cases we start with the most likely, and then move through those things that are less likely.
But you can do hardware diagnostics at any time - and updating Windows is a requirement early on (as it solves a lot of things, not just BSOD's).

Good luck!

Makes sense, thanks for the info mate! Shall I mark the thread as solved and create a new one if the issue persists? Since it doesn't happen very often so it might take a while till I see if it's solved.

Just leave it open until you're sure it's solved.
Most BSOD's will come back within 2 weeks - although it could take longer.
