Hello - could you please help me fix this BSOD? File uploaded here:

View attachment 55396

I have been doing a mix of things each time it happened. Usually some of the same programs open (Chrome, AIMMS, Skype, Word). Can't guess at what's likely to be causing the problem. I've used the laptop fine for over a year, this is just a recent problem. I have downloaded some things which required drivers, so I might hint at it being a driver thing. I'm not sure that I have the latest Windows updates, but I did recently upgrade to Windows 8.1 from 8.0 (initially this seemed to cause no problems).

I run McAfee antivirus and that didn't suggest any viruses. I'm now running ESET online scanner and thus far (50%) no viruses.

Thanks for the help!

Here's the 3 things that I need:
Upload Dump Files:
NOTE: If using a disk cleaning utility, please stop using it while we are troubleshooting your issues.
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Left click on the first minidump file.
Hold down the "Shift" key and left click on the last minidump file.
Right click on the blue highlighted area and select "Send to"
Select "Compressed (zipped) folder" and note where the folder is saved.
Upload that .zip file with your next post.

If you have issues with "Access Denied" errors, try copying the files to your desktop and zipping them up from there. If it still won't let you zip them up, post back for further advice.

If you don't have anything in that folder, please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service. Then post the link to it in your topic so that we can download it.

Also, search your entire hard drive for files ending in .dmp, .mdmp, and .hdmp. Zip up any that you find and upload them with your next post.

Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): Set MiniDumpMore info on dump file options here: Overview of memory dump file options for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2

MSINFO32:
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "msinfo32 /nfo %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\TEST.NFO" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

systeminfo:
Please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "systeminfo.exe >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the syteminfo.txt file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .txt file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Hi there Mr Cranky Pants - thanks so much for your help. I've attached, hopefully, what you asked for.

I've had a couple of days without blue-screening, but it came back today with a vengeance!

I hope you're able to diagnose and treat this ill health.

This is (IMO) most likely a hardware problem - but there are some possible software/driver issues that need to also be taken care of (in order to rule them out).

Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

The following driver is a concern to me, and I'd suggest either making sure that you have an updated, Win8.1 compatible version - or uninstalling it's program completely (to ensure that it doesn't load). DO NOT DELETE IT - as that may render the system unbootable.
I'd also suggest making a System Restore point and a bootable System Repair disk before attempting to remove it (again, just in case the system becomes unbootable).

Pegatron/Toshiba HotKey or Password Utility
http://www.carrona.org/drivers/driver.php?id=PEGAGFN.sys

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

Hi there John

Thanks again for the help. I'm afraid I got a bit lost through your Carrona links so I think I'm going to just take it to a local laptop repair shop and pay for them to do it. I will share your results with them if that's ok?

Feel free to share my results with the shop and good luck with them!
While you may miss it for a couple of days, a good shop will figure it out, fix it, and will guarantee their work.

Hi there

Just a quick update on this... I wondered if my Windows 8.1 updates were up to date (too many instances of 'date' here - it's like a bad reality TV show).

I got the computer to search and make the updates it seems that the blue-screening has stopped - at least for the past 4 workdays.

I'm still wary and will use your comments with the local PC shop if I get another BSOD, but I just wanted to get back to you on this, and say thanks again for the help.

In my different posts regarding BSOD's, one of the first things that I stress is that Windows Updates are critical to troubleshooting.
I have found many instances (some of them on my own systems) that have stopped BSOD'ing once all updates were applied.

Good luck!
