Solved Random freeze - tried different options

Hello!

I have a huge problem for a few weeks now. I'm useing an Asus notebook, an X5DIE, and it freezes randomly. I have read the forum, if you found some solution, but is havent found any usable tricks.
A have already tried to change the system preformance to maximum in advanced system options, i already tried disableing the drive optimization, i updated all the drivers for my laptop, but nothing works.
At first i thought that might be the touchpad it is, so i disabled it in the bios, but it doesnt even worked.
I even updated bios.

You are the only hope for me. I run the test, that is needed, hope you find something, which solves my problem, and its not a hardware problem.

Hi,

Same as almost all the others with freeze issues. All missing co-processor driver (power management). That means you haven't installed the chipset drivers for your MCP79 NVIDIA nForce motherboard yet.


Install the latest and use the device manager if necessary. It will be in the extracted SMBus folder. It wil also have a storage driver you should install.

It's probably on ASUS' site for your model. Win 7 x64

Still not working

The notebook still freezes. The cursor stops, and a few seconds later even disappear from the screen. Often make some freezed noise. The same symptoms as before :\
Any new ideas?

Boot the machine to safe mode + networking. Use it to surf the web or just let it sit there. Leave it in this mode for as long as you are satisfied there are no more freezes. If it is all well and good here, you do not have a hardware problem.

If that test is successful, look at your services and applications starting with Windows for one of them to be the culprit.

I would uninstall all ASUS software. Also, I would set Optimized Defaults in the bios.

I also noticed you have an Elantech input device without the proprietary driver installed. I would check on this as well and install the driver:

In safe mode it stable now for 4 hours - quite good.
I searched the net for any good touchpad driver, but nothing yet - the problem was the same with the original driver. Now works with default microsoft, but multitouch doesnt.
Does it help, if i run the setup as administrator?

Also cleaned up the asus mess - all the asus programs.

I also have ASUS but other older type (K42F). Running WCP 64-bit. ASUS native driver for touchpad works fine with it.
Btw, On installing any driver most likely you are prompted by UAC for elevated mode, by clicking yes then it runs under administrator privilege.
My ASUS initially did have problem when forcing all factory drivers to install. Then I tried reinstall WCP and just pick few native driver from ASUS and leave the rest handled by microsoft driver included in WCP install DVD.
I found it works better now.

Updated realtek driver, elantech touchpad, and ATK package, the system is stable for 7 hours now. Seems the problem is solved. Thank you for the assistance. Hopefully stays unfreezed for another 7 hours, and then i will be statisfied.

Yup, fo sho and a Dutch on the side. ATK package was likely the good one to rid of or otherwise update, as you have.

So, installed chipset drivers so it uses NVIDIA storage and installed coprocessor power management SMBus driver for MCP79 (MCP79D): check

Updated ATK for ASUS: check

Definitely good to have installed Elantech driver too: check
