Problem:
Windows freezes., from 10 minutes from logging in to a few hours of use.
Mouse able to move but can't click anything.

Details:
Freezing started after I sold my graphics card, went back to Intel's on board graphics, and changed my motherboard and installed the drivers and utilities found on the manufacturer's website.

My attempts at troubleshooting:
Installed the drivers found in the graphics card section here.
-Still Froze-

Disconnected my second monitor.
-Still froze, but it took longer-

Uninstalled most of my recently installed programs and updates, including most of the drivers and utilities I found from the motherboard manufacturer's website.

-Still froze but not after 30 minutes of logging in like before-

Set the Performance options in the Advanced System Settings to Best performance but I enabled transparent glass and smooth edges of screen fonts. (I also reconnected my 2nd monitor.)
-I thought the problem was fixed but it still froze a few hours later.-

Current situation:
Currently freeze free after my last hard reset after my last attempt. I don't know if it will last though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Hi,

Uninstall ESET in safe mode with the special tool found online.

Reboot to normal mode and type services.msc in the start menu then press enter. Set the Windows Firewall and Windows Defender services to Auto if not already and then start them too.

Enjoy.

(I'd be inclined to uninstall cfosspeed if it becomes necessary, too.)

Your symptoms are classic security-gone-bad issues. Should fix it all up I'd say. You're welcome.

Unistalled ESET. Still giving cfospeed a chance though. Does MSE support Windows 8? Since I'll be using that instead of ESET. BTW, the wireless driver you linked says it does not support my OS. Know any workaround?

Use the device manager to install the driver.

Follow my directions about about the services. Windows Defender on Windows 8 = MSE. You already have it on the system and it should be enabled.

How is the system running now with ESET gone?

My device won't work with the new driver so I reverted it back. My system is a bit more snappy with ESET gone. I'll try running my system a whole day and see if there are any freezes. If there's none I'll consider this solved.

Thank you once again for your help.

The problem wasn't with ESET. It still froze even with ESET uninstalled so I uninstalled cfospeed. And viola it's now fixed. Been running non stop for a whole day now and no freezes. Hoping this is permanent.
