Solved Random restarts

Hi there,

I have a new PC I put together a few weeks ago. It ran fine until I tried to do some overclocking a couple of days ago, didn't see one single blue screen. The PC is running on a semi-custom water loop, Swiftech H220-x + a 240MM rad and the GPU, temps seems to be ok.

After the blue screens started, I reset the bios. Bluescreens stopped, but now I'm getting random restarts without any error messages. The bluescreens were mostly due to voltage problems far as I could tell, but I'm no expert on these things (obviously). The restarts seems to be very random, from watching a movie to playing games.

Specs:
Windows 8.1
i7 4790K
EVGA GTX 980
Asus Maximus vii Gene
Kingston HyperX FURY 16GB
Intel 330-series 120GB x2 (raid 0)
Corsair HX750i

I had to RMA my previous PSU, as it "blew up". Was an EVGA 750 G2. It didn't appear to do any damage to the rest though. Perhaps it could have?

Any help is appreciated.

The water cooling is semi-custom, running an extra rad (240mm), with the GPU added to the loop.
Mine started out doing that when i first built mine.. but just stopped one day, and hasn't for years now... but... first thing i think of, is your PSU putting out enough power to everything? is it all correctly plugged in(the right amount of pins for the parts). I helped my best friend build her compy... and i didn't know much about the psu, and how it played into the rest of the computer.. i thought a psu was just a psu.. and nothing but fancy and prefrences in what to buy.... however, her graphics card required a higher power source than what was bought, which ended up causing harm to the video card after playing a sims game for a few hours.
Also do you have the right setting on the psu's switch for voltage?
That's all i can think of.... a real tech person should come by soon ;)

It's a 750W platinum PSU though, and according to Corsair link software the system only draws around 300W at full load (running Aida64). I'm not that pleased with the cables though, they were a bit hard to mount into the PSU itself. I'll go over it. Thanks.

There is a lot of outdated drivers and that seems to be the cause of your problems as well as a HW issue of some sort. So, first of, update every driver highlighted in red, and secondly follow these instructions to the letter. Hardware Diagnostics Thirdly, update your Realtek HD Audio driver.

Thank you. I'm guessing the Asus ones comes from Asus AI Suite 3? I have the newest version on the website, Version 1.00.83 - 2014/11/21. Uninstalled it, so will see if that helps. Uninstalled GPU-z. Not sure what Asus USB Hub filter is, but I have the only USB driver from the website, Asmedia USB Controller Driver V1.16.15.0. Updated the Realtek HD Audio driver (to r2.75 from Realtek's website).

I ran 2 passes to 100% in Memtest86+ without errors. Might let it run some more during the night. Also gonna let Aida64 run for a while, only done 30 min tests so far - without any restarts or blue screens though.

Please do run memtest for longer (7-8) passes. It will take a long time to complete, so I recommend running it over night.

Thank you, will run it over the night.

The PC has been running fine since this morning, but I just got a sudden restart. It's been on all day. Tried updated the drivers marked with red, and I disabled "nVidia Streaming Kernel service".

Could try to reinstall Windows 8.1 if that could help, but I'll test the hw first. Is there any way to truly test the GPU alone? Tried Furmark, but I nothing is happening.

Added an updated attachment.

Thank you. From what I've read, Prime95 is not recommenced for my CPU. I've been running both Aida64 and Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (only the stress testing part). I hit around 70 degrees on 100% load for my CPU, and 50-ish on my GPU. Running Prime95 (did it once), I hit 80+ and according to others it's because the software draws way too much voltage. One hour BF4 I hit around 65 degrees. To be honest 60+ seems a bit high with this cooling, but I guess water wasn't a great idea on 1150.

I uninstalled the driver, it was the Corsair one? Using another mouse for now (Logitech).

I've been testing with Prime for years without problems, but OK. Try using another mouse for some time and see if BSODs reccur. Bugcheck 124 means that there is most likely a hardware issue present.

So I did some more research.

I have three extra hard drives connected, Samsung F3 (hd103sj), Seagate Barracuda 2TB (st2000dm001), and a new SSD Crucial MX100 256GB. Both HDD's fail to run "Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows" within a few seconds, with error code = 7 (failed read test elements) failure checkpoint = 00. The MX100 passes. According to HD Tune there are no damaged sectors on any of the HDD's, but there seems to be some issues under the health bar. I don't have any software installed on either HDD.

Looked into Bugcheck 124, and ended up checking Event Viewer -> custom views -> administrative events. Seeing the kernel-power 41 (63), critical error 16 times over the last 4 days. The log goes back to 20.11, the night before my PSU died. I actually re-installed Windows 8.1 on my Intel SSD's then. No critical errors until 26.11 though, but it seems to have started before I did any overclocking. There's also a bunch of errors of different sorts. I'll add the .evtx in attachments.

Edit: I tried running Driver Verifier as well, and it kept giving me BSOD's. Had to boot to safe mode to turn it off, but I'm not sure where the log files are. Guess that means there is still a driver problem?

One of your HDD could be damaged. and yes, driver verifier crashing means that there is a driver problem. Minidumps should be located at C:/ Windows/ Minidumps. If you are using CCleaner plesase remove it for the time we are throubleshooting.

Do you have any Razer HW connected to PC? If so, disconnect it and remove the drivers.

I had a Razer BlackWidow Stealth 2014 connected, removed it and uninstalled Razer Synapse. It didn't give me any problems on my previous computer though. I also have a Blue Snowball mic connected.

The water cooling is semi-custom, running an extra rad (240mm), with the GPU added to the loop.
Driver Verifier identified it as the cause of one of the crashes. Try using the PC now and see if the BSODs reccur.

Just got another sudden restart, while playing a game. Around 1 and a half hour into it. Ran Driver Verifier again, and as last time I kept getting BSODs, files in attachments.

Considering re-installing Windows on the new SSD, and removing the raid from the Intel disks.

Thank you. Decided to reinstall windows, and disconnect every hard drive except the newest SSD. It went fine reinstalling, drivers should be updated. Went with BitDefender Antivirus Free Edition this time.

Added a fresh SF debug File to attachments.
