Hello everyone,

I am having BSOD issues... used to have them some months ago, then none... a couple days ago they started again, today, got 3 already. Working not really possible.

I didn't write them down quickly enough, but one was NTFS, one was system thread exception.

I have not installed anything I can recall. The system is windows 8.1 and up to date.
The laptop is a Samsung Series 7 740 U3e with i7 and SSD and 6 gb ram.

my log file:

Any help would be very much appreciated....

Phil

Hmm, now that I think of it... I had about 7GB of space left on my SSD and then moved about 50+GB to an external HDD... video files mostly...
That is the only thing out of the ordinary that I did ... two days ago...

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).
Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

Manual procedure here: Registry and SPTD problems | DAEMON Pro Help

Out of 6 memory dumps there were 5 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device)
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- dirt/dust/hair/fur/crud inside the case. Blow out the case/vents with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or vacuum as they can cause damage to the system)
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

You can get a head start on the hardware diagnostics if you'd like - they are located here: Hardware Diagnostics

I have to wonder about the timing of the movement of the 50 gB off of your boot drive. Overcrowded drives can have BSOD's due to the overcrowding - but it's not seen very often. Have the BSOD's stopped since you moved all the data off the drive? Also, I have a Samsung NP780 that was spitting all sorts of errors as it fought the 5400 rpm hard drive. I fixed those errors with an SSD, but it's not overcrowded as yours was (I currently have about 20% free space).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Your Acronis drivers date from before the release of Win8.1 Please check the Acronis website to be sure that your version is compatible w/Win8.1 If it is not, please uninstall it.

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

I am not real concerned with the various storage drivers, as most of them aren't even being used (they are loaded by the OEM in case they use those drivers in other systems). If you can't find updates, don't worry about it - just let us know

hey,
thanks for all the tips, will go through all of them, as long as the laptop will let me.

- the BSODs started after I moved the 50GB
- no overclocking by me... dont know if that is possible without me knowing?

I remembered one thing though, I installed printer drivers, ricoh, shortly before this started. Am trying to get rid of them, maybe that solves it...

BUT

Yesterday and today, in between a couple of BSODs, the laptop shut itself down on its own without warning. Not the OS, but the hardware, as if the power was lost, but I was able to restart right away.
Then,
I was being a bad boy and ran a memtest from a USB stick today.... test 7 moving inversions returned 2500+ errors.

Do memtest errors like these always mean that there is broken hardware?

this is the last memtest logView attachment 53356

MemTest errors are most often bad memory - but not always.
The next most common problem is bad memory slots
Also can be dirt/dust/hair/etc in the slots. Blow them out with canned air (DO NOT use an air compressor or a vacuum - it can damage the components).

You can test that by testing each stick in the first slot.
Once you find a good stick, then test it in all the other slots
That'll test the slots.

Ultimate test is new memory sticks.
Then run the test again just to be sure.

Well, to keep you up to date, The machine still had guarantee...so, I tool it to Samsung and they found faulty RAM, exchanged it and voila, it works fine again.

Thanks for all your help!!
