Frequent BSODs

Hi I'm getting pretty frequent BSODs when I'm using my computer. Attached is the file I got after going through all the steps and using the diagnostic tool. As a note every time it crashes and goes to the blue error screen where it says it's collecting information it goes to 100% but never restarts so I have to manually restart it so if there are any issues with the file or you need anymore information just let me know. Thank you.

These devices have problems in Device Manager:
USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller ROOT\UOIP_BUS_DRIVER\0000 This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.

Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) BTH\MS_BTHPAN\7&3F48110&1&2 This device is disabled.
In Device Manager, p7Please right click on the xHCI device and select "Uninstall". Reboot the system and check to be sure that any error with the xHCI device has been resolved.

As for the Bluetooth device, it is disabled. Is this deliberate? If so, why?
Please re-enable the device and update it to the latest, Win8.1 compatible drivers. If you so desire, feel free to disable it again.

MSI Afterburner and Riva Tuner (along with EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install them immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these 4 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Get ALL available, Win8.1 compatible updates from the manufacturer's website.
3. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
4. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

I followed the steps you put forth and I'm still suffering from BSODs. Again whenever it crashes and goes to the blue error screen and tells you to wait and it will restart by itself it never does and I have to restart it manually. I'm attaching the latest from the diagnostic tool. There were a some things such as the[FONT=verdana, Tahoma, Calibri, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif][/FONT]tapoas.sys that I couldn't find where to uninstall it or really anything related to it. If you have any other advice it would be much appreciated.

Also it seems to happen when I'm doing two or more things simultaneously such as playing a game while listening to music or being in a Skype call while doing something like playing the game. Simply doing one task or the other either won't result in a BSOD or at least very rarely will there be a BSOD.

It's not often that BSOD's topics are solved with the first post.
It usually takes 2 pages of posts to achieve some sort of closure - and 4-5 or more pages on the more complicated topics.

Here's some things to remove (uninstall):
- LogMeIn (lmimirr.sys and LMIRfsDriver.sys) It's drivers date from 2007/2008. If needed you can reinstall the latest, Win8.1 compatible version once the system is stabilized.
- WinPcap libraries (npf.sys) - recently have been known to be involved in BSOD's on Win8.1 systems.
- OpenVPN (tapoas.sys) it's drivers date from 2010

Use Vaio Update to get all of the latest, Win8.1 compatible updates for your system (semav6thermal64ro.sys and SFEP.sys are the oldest)
Ensure that you have all available Windows Updates

As this memory dump isn't very similar to the previous memory dump, this may mean that there's a hardware issue present.
As such, please start these free hardware diagnostics in order to help rule out the more obvious hardware problems. Let us know the results and we'll move on from there.

FYI - 3rd party drivers that function at a low-level can give symptoms that are similar to hardware problems (random errors). As such it's necessary for us to rule out both 3rd party drivers and hardware in this situation.

I'll get those hardware tests started when I get home but yesterday when I was updating drivers and removing programs I couldn't find anywhere to uninstall OpenVPN and WinPCap so I'm not sure what to do about those.

What programs do you have that use VPN and networking?
It's best to remove the programs that use the driver(s) - that way it gets rid of everything that's causing problems with that program (not just that individual driver).
If unable to tell, then we can manually remove the drivers.

That may/may not help. But if it identifies the program responsible (since it won't work properly), then you can completely remove it.

I don't like to do this (it's not a neat fix), but we'll do it if they continue to show up in the memory dumps.

I'm not sure what programs I have that could be using those drivers and I don't see either of them listed in programs and features so I'm not sure what to do from here. If you'd like me to manually remove them let me know and also let me know how as I'm not sure how to do that. Also a couple of months ago I had the same issues with this computer and had run the hardware tests with no errors and ended up eventually having to do a full system restore which fixed the problem until just recently so I don't think it has to do with the hardware. It seems to always happen after Windows forces me to update to 8.1.

OK, here's what I suggest.
We wait for the next set of BSOD's.
If the drivers are present in there, I will provide detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to safely remove these drivers.
Then we'll wait again to see if that fixes the BSOD's (it'll also give you the opportunity to see what programs it breaks - those are the most likely to be related to those drivers).

Here's how to get rid of the 2 drivers. If you see any references to HotSpotShield or hssdrv6.sys - that's because I was rushed this morning (sorry!).....

npf.sys:
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc (Recovery Drive in Win8.1):
Win 7 - Go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc
Win 8 - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER
Win 8.1 - Go to the Start Screen and type in "recoverydrive" (one word, without the quotes). That will start the recovery drive process. You will need a USB drive of at least 512 mB - and all data will be erased off of it. If copying the recovery partition the drive size will be much, much larger (16 - 32 gB drive required).
3) Test the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk/drive (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of npf.sys that are starting (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of npf.sys are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of npf.sys are disabled.
7) EXPERIMENTAL STEP (only try if you're certain of your abilities - I have not tried this step myself). Search the registry (use regedit.exe) to locate any entries that have the driver name (npf.sys). Delete these keys (it's advisable to back them up first - but you've also backed up the entire registry when creating a System Restore point in step 1. Alternatively, you can set the values in these keys to DISABLED (but the "how" of this is beyond the scope of this).
8) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the npf.sys driver to npf.BAD (search the hard drive for it if it's not in C:\Windows\System32\drivers).

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the Command Prompt option to rename npf.BAD to npf.sys
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\npf.BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\npf.sys
21) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

tapoas.sys:
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc (Recovery Drive in Win8.1):

Neither of the older drivers show up in the latest memory dump.
Unfortunately, the verifier enabled memory dump doesn't point to a particular driver.
It does hint at networking problems, so we'll have to work on the rest of the drivers that are related to networking. First we'll start with those that were released before Win8.1 (17 Oct 2013)

The principal here is that you rule out all 3rd party drivers in order to determine if there's a hardware problem.
So, start by checking to see if each of the following drivers is Win8.1 compatible. If unsure, install the latest, Win8.1 compatible version from the PC manufacturer's website. Do not worry about the drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] - the dump_ one is only updated when you update the iaStorA.sys driver - and the intelppm.sys one is updated through Windows Update (so if you have all Windows Updates, it's the latest one). The easiest way to do this on a Sony system is to use Vaio Update first - then check for any that aren't updated.

    Mouse
    no Mouse - Trackball!!!!
    Internet Speed

Yes, I use this (Firefox mostly, w/IE next most)

So when I was updating the drivers my computer randomly crashed and then it would crash every time I tried to start up my computer. I ended up having to revert back to a previous system restore point through the recovery menu to even get to the log in screen for my computer. Any advice?

Which drivers were involved?
What were you using to update them?
Can we have a look at this report?:
Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog))
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

I don't remember exactly which drivers they were but I think they were either one of the intel drivers or realtek drivers. My computer has crashed a few times since then so you might have to sift to find the proper reports. I can't remember exactly what the error said but it was something about a System Thread. Maybe System_thread_exception_not_handled? I attached the file from the SF_Diagnostic Tool but when I tried to go through the Event Viewer this is what happened.

When I clicked on Administrative Events

This is a common error with EventViewer - it involves stuff that wasn't updated for 8.1, so the event viewer panics.
In most cases if you keep clicking on OK, it'll still open up the report and will let you save it.

Here's a fix for the error:
Error in Event Viewer (DxpTaskRingtone) - how to fix:
1. Back up registry (set a System Restore point).
2. Right click on Start.
3. Choose 'Run'.
4. Type "regedit" (without quotation marks)
5. Choose 'Yes' when you're prompted by UAC.
6. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels\
7. Right click on folder: Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic
8. Choose 'Delete' and then 'Yes'.
9. Close Registry Editor and restart your computer.
This is from this topic: Error in Event Viewer (DxpTaskRingtone) after upgrading to - Microsoft Community

Interestingly, the npf.sys driver is still present in the memory dumps from 10 November.
Please re-do the instructions that I posted above (and in this case, also look for any info on WinPcap in the descriptions)
Here it is again:
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of npf.sys (and anything that mentions WinPcap) that are starting (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of npf.sys (and anything that mentions WinPcap) are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of npf.sys (and anything that mentions WinPcap) are disabled.
7) EXPERIMENTAL STEP (only try if you're certain of your abilities - I have not tried this step myself). Search the registry (use regedit.exe) to locate any entries that have the driver name (npf.sys) Also search for anything that mentions WinPcap.

Good luck!

That driver probably showed up in the more recent crashes as I had had to restore to a previous system restore point and the last one I had was right before I had disabled the npf and tapoas drivers. I went back and did that again and I applied the fix for the event viewer and am attaching that here. Thanks again for all the help.

    Windows 8.1
Also I just got a notification from Windows Action Center about a sudden crash and Windows seems to be linking it to some Intel Graphics Driver but the solution it offers is to download a specific driver which is apparently not compatible with my system.
