Can't go back to Windows 7

Alright this is going to be a long story.

I wanted to try Windows 8 so I installed it on a separate SSD I had from my Windows 7 HDD thinking it would keep separate. I didn't like it so I tried replacing it with Lion OSX. I didn't realize that special precautions had to be taken and that I couldn't just install an OS over Windows 8.

Now I can't get into my Windows 7 HDD and even when I use my Windows 7 dvd in IDE, it goes to the same message:

Windows Recovery Environment Your PC needs to be repaired A required device isnt connected or cant be accessed. Error code: 0xc000000e

However it does load when I choose AHCI and not IDE. I don't know if it has to do with when I installed Lion over Windows 8, I had to switch IDE to AHCI. So by using AHCI, I was able to install Windows 8 again but it did not solve any of my problems and it doesn't give me the option to boot into Windows 7 like the first time it was installed.

I know I'm such an idiot but any help is greatly appreciated.

hi,

why not remove the second SSD and if you cannot boot then, reinstall Win7 on the HDD?

bye

This depends on how the system was setup when you installed Win7.
Put the system in that state, and then run these 3 commands (pressing Enter after each one) with the Win7 repair disk:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

FYI - this may stop the Lion OS from loading (as Windows won't recognize it when searching for OS's).

Jeffrys - That's because I have a lot of data on my Windows 7 HDD (It had been my primary drive for many years) that I can still access from the SSD that I don't want to lose. I can remove the SSD but it doesn't allow me to boot into my HDD still. I think the Windows 8 created a bootloader the Windows 7 relied on that got erased when I tried to install the other OS. I realize how stupid I am without backing up and getting into this whole mess in general.

usasma - I have reinstalled Windows 8 and it works fine but won't let me get into my 7 side (it doesn't give me the option). Even if I remove the SSD, I can not get my Windows 7 HDD to get passed the screen I stated above.

"Windows Recovery Environment Your PC needs to be repaired
A required device isnt connected or cant be accessed.
Error code: 0xc000000e
You'll need to use the recovery tools on the installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.
Press Enter to try again
Press F8 to alternate boot options
Press F9 to use a different operating system."

For some reason, even if I try to boot from the Windows 7 DVD, it will still make me go to this screen and freeze. I just can't get passed this screen because it just freezes on this screen no matter what I press.

You can boot the win 8 dvd - if it sees the win 7 HD - go to command prompt and type:

bootsect /nt60 all /mbr

If you manage to get that drive recognised, and still no boot menu entry , try adding windows 7 as a boot menu option.

If you don't want to use commands - Easybcd is simple to use.

I assume you can see it from Windows 8?

Thank you siw2. I can't for some reason boot from the DVDs when I only have the HDD in. I'll try easybcd when i get home since I have little to no knowledge of code.

Another vote for EasyBCD. the interface is slightly confusing but it does what you need easily.
