I have a error on one of my windows installs the error is pc/device needs to be repaired The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or usb device), contact your administrator or pc/device manufacturer.
only other problem is I wrote over it with another windows install but it still shows up as a bootable option so I would like to know how do I restore that partition with the error.
I guess I have a hidden partition or windows is picking up a weird partition scheme because it picks up my old os even though I wrote over the partition with another os. I ran those commands I also ran rebuildbcd but it didn't work I wasn't able to restore that partition.
Sounds pretty tough... hope the EXE isn't corrupt.
Refreshing or even Reinstalling seems to be the only conventional way left unless someone else can help but...
I'm in no way suggesting you use 3rd party open source software but this is probably what I would do.
I'd burn a Ubuntu ISO (x86 version for a few reasons I'd rather not go into here) reset the BIOS and boot from the CD and run Ubuntu live (trial not a full install so it just runs in memory).
I'd make sure I copied any important files from the windows partition(s) to another partion, external usb or esata drive just in case.
Then using certain editing tools I'd try to locate the old partition(s) and/or corrupt boot record(s) and if they looked like they were part of the problem I'd delete them and rebuild the remaining MBR(s) or GUID Partition Tables (GPT) and see what happens.
