I am a win7 user, noob with win8. Usually when i ugrade hardware with win7 i just install the new drivers and everything works correctly. Never needed to format.
This is the first time i ugrade hardware on a win8 machine and i don't want to format.

I have an HTPC that was running an AMD A8 APU with Windows 8.
I just ugraded to a brand new A10 7850K with a new motherboard. All other hardware including RAM stays the same.

I installed the new drivers with the CD but now my HTPC keeps getting a blue screen a few seconds after booting into windows, then it reboots and does the same thing.

I managed to get into safe mode and remove everything on the startup (old w7 msconfig trick)
So farm safe mode is still the only way to boot Win8 without instantly getting a blue screen

New MSI motherboard has an option in BIOS called "Enable Windows 8/8.1 Feature"
If i enable it, then the HTPC won't even boot Win8, it stays stuck on the EFI Shell page

Config is:

AMD A10 7850K APU
MSI A78M-E45 FM2+/FM2 AMD A78
Samsung SSD x2
1tb black
Windows 8
2x GSKILL 4GB 1600 RAM

Whenever you install a new mother board, you need to reinstall Windows and all your software/drivers. The only time this doesn't apply is if it's the same motherboard model. Also, never install the drivers from the cd. They're outdated by the time you buy the product. Go to the motherboards website and download new drivers.

I changed motherboard on multiple different PC on Windows 7 and even Windows XP without ever having to format.

I also ran MSI LiveUpdate to get the most recent drivers

Get ALL drivers from the MSI website. The CD is old by the time that you get it.
Make sure that you get drivers that are compatible with your version of Win8 or 8.1

Sorry for the delay in responding. There just aren't that many people who do BSOD analysis, so at times we get a bit overwhelmed!

Do your still need help with this problem?
