Hi guys,

I'm having an issue with my 8.1 on my desktop PC. Have had 8.1 installed for a couple of months now without issue until recently. Computer will not start, ending on a sad smiley face BSOD with the message INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Error codes 0x80070571 and 0xc0000001 have been seen.

Sounds to me like a corrupted hard drive. Did a bit of reading and went into command prompt armed with various chkdsk, /r and /f commands all of which were carried out showing no issues. A few guides said to carry a few bootrec commands (/fixMBR, /rebuildBCD, /fixBoot), which I've also done without much success.

Also tried this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGPVKk79JCc

No change there either.

I chucked the installation disk in and tried to run a repair, but it says the hard drive is locked. Woo. Some attempts to unlock said drive has resulted in the above actions.

I appreciate any input available. Thanks for your time.

Martin

Hi Anti & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

This bug check indicates that the Microsoft Windows operating system has lost access to the system partition during startup.

Did you try with another HDD? I would suggest you doing the Disk Diagnostics and report back the results -
Hard Drive Diagnostic Procedure

Furthermore, have you tried re-plugging the cables with which your Hard Disk is connected?

Let me know how it goes ^_^

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Gave this a go tonight and ran the diagnostics. Failed the long test twice then passed on the third time around. Little stumped.

Hi Anti ^_^,

Did you try repairing the drive using the Diagnostic Tools? I would suggest you to immediately backup all of the data from the drive since the Long Test detects Bad Sectors on the Hard Disk and it has failed.

Let me know how it goes ^_^
