I have Windows 8CP installed on a Dell Duo. It's been working pretty well. Last night after reinstalling my Office 2007 and Outlook 2007 software I ran Windows update. There were a number of Windows 8 updates as well as Service Pack 1 for Office. There was also one optional update for a technical driver/program (I don't remember the name and can't get to Control Panel to find it out.) I don't know what caused the freeze. I can't even shut down normally, have to force a shut down.
I believe I need to reinstall Windows 8 (have to use a flash drive because my Dell Duo has no optical drive) and will get some help this afternoon to do that.
Is Office 2007 causing the problem? It seemed to run fine after I downloaded and activated it. Our IT person thinks I'll do better to download the free trial of Office 2010. I was trying to avoid the added expense of new Office software. I'm not knowledgeable enough to do anything more than follow directions.
A computer is something I use to do my job, not something I like to tinker with! I wanted the Windows 8 because I have the Dell Duo and its touch screen does not work well with Windows 7.
