Please provide this information so we can provide a complete analysis (from the Pinned Topic at the top of the forum): http://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...e-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html Please use Option 1 as it provides Event Viewer logs.

Please note the drivers below that date from before the release of Windows 8.1 (17 Oct 2013) - check to see that each and every one is compatible w/Windows 8.1 (at the manufacturer's website). If not, you must either remove the device and it's software - or locate a Windows 8.1 compatible update on the web. Removing some drivers may make the system unstable - so if you're unable to find updates, post back for info on the one's that can/cannot be safely removed.

The drivers that are [DEL]struckout[/DEL] don't have updates available (AFAIK).
DO NOT delete them, just leave them be.

Beyond this, as there was only 1 memory dump in the upload, I have these 3 suggestions:
1. Get ALL available Windows Updates. It may take several trips to get them all
2. Start with these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics
3. If all of the hardware tests pass, then run Driver Verifier according to these instructions: Driver Verifier Settings

Hi usasma,

I have attached my eventlog zipped file as requested. The utilities software AICharger has also been uninstalled from the laptop. From what I have googled, ASMMAP64.sys is linked to the ATK driver and from the asus support website, my ATK driver is already the latest.

I have also updated the latest windows update.

Just an update on the issue. The BSOD seems to occur when the laptop goes into hibernation mode (instead of sleep mode as previously indicated). Apparently my laptop goes into hibernation mode after sleeping for a certain number of hours. I have since then disabled hibernation and have not encountered the problem yet.

Also just to let you know, my laptop comes with the 16GB SSD cache drive (which I presume is utilized during hibernation mode). Is there by any chance that this cache drive is faulty? If so, how can I verify?

I hope I have given you sufficient information to diagnose the problem.

Thanks again!

You can try CrystalDiskInfo to see how the SSD is behaving: CrystalDiskInfo - Software - Crystal Dew World

Have you run the hardware diagnostics that I suggested? If so, what were the results?

You're using almost ½ of your physical memory (RAM) - that's an awful lot!
You're also using about 6½ gB of virtual memory - which is also a lot!

Out of the last 25 memory dumps there were 7 different BSOD error codes. The differing error codes are usually symptomatic of a lower level problem within the system. They are usually caused by one of these things:
- borked (broken) hardware (several different procedures used to isolate the problem device) - this is where the hardware tests ( Hardware Diagnostics ) come into play.
- BIOS issues (check for updates at the motherboard manufacturer's website)
- overclocking/overheating - You'll know if you're overclocking or not. If uncertain we can suggest things to check.
- missing Windows Updates
- compatibility issues (3rd party hardware/drivers), older systems, or even pirated systems
- low-level driver problems
- or even malware (scanned for when we ask for hardware diagnostics from Initial Hardware Diagnostics or Hardware Diagnostics ).

Please note below that nearly all of the drivers present in these memory dumps are from BEFORE Win8.1 was released (17 Oct 2013). They must be updated to the latest, Win8.1 compatible version.

In particular, the Intel Smart Connect drivers, the bluetooth drivers, the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers, The Intel Management Engine drivers, and the Intel(R) Dynamic Platform & Thermal Framework drivers are all critical, low-level drivers that could also be causing these BSOD's. They must be updated (and, it appears, that updates for these are available at the Asus website for your system. Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS ZENBOOK UX302LG - ASUS (in the Bluetooth and the Others sections)

Hi,

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to see from the CrystalDiskInfo. I have attached the printscreen from the info below. However from the "disk management", it has an allocated 13.67GB space for "Hibernation Partition".

The Crystal Disk Info says that the SSD is good. That's the most that I've seen in the way of testing for an SSD.
My only concern is the Temperature - it says that it's 22º, but the chart under it says it's 78º (with 22º being the Worst value). Could it be that the SSD is actually at another value (such as 122º)?

Then look at the results for the HDD and things get even more confusing. In short, there's no telling (IMO) if the SSD is good or not.

Please run the rest of the hardware diagnostics that I suggested earlier (to include the Seagate Seatools test on the HDD if you haven't run it already). Here's the link again: Hardware Diagnostics Let us know the results of all tests and we'll move on from there.

Hi,

I have done 4 passes of memtest without any error detected.

Just to confirm, I can run the seatools even though my hdd is WD? And how can I boot it from a USB drive instead since my laptop doesn't come with a CD-drive?

The Crystal Disk Info says that the SSD is good. That's the most that I've seen in the way of testing for an SSD.

You can run the Seagate Seatools and it will recognize your W-D hard drive (and will test it)
You can run the Seagate Seatools version that is for Windows. That way you install it on your computer and run it, it doesn't need to be run from bootable media.

Good luck!

I have just run the seaTools. No error detected as well.
View attachment 52282

You can run the Seagate Seatools and it will recognize your W-D hard drive (and will test it)
You can run the Seagate Seatools version that is for Windows. That way you install it on your computer and run it, it doesn't need to be run from bootable media.

Good luck!

I'm currently suppressing it by disabling fastboot and hibernation mode on my windows. But I can induce the BSOD by putting it to hibernation.

Let's wait for the next BSOD. When it happens, please zip up and upload the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump directory with your next post. You may have to copy it to your desktop in order to zip it up.

In the old days (XP) BSOD's when entering hibernation were caused by corrupted/bad video drivers.
With the advent of Vista, more drivers have entered the picture. In particular:
- video drivers
- chipset drivers
- storage drivers
- networking drivers

Please update them ASAP. I'll try to post more this afternoon/tomorrow AM (I'm late for work!)

How I wish I know what's the driver causing it. The last I've checked, I've updated all the drivers listed on Asus website for my laptop model.

Anyway, I really appreciate your commitment in helping me out with this.

And (sorry!) I'm still late for work.
The drivers are still older, have you update the one's that I suggested earlier?
Please let me know which one's you updated (so I can tell if they have other updates at different locations).

This memory dump points at your hard drive (actually it's the NTFS file system on the hard drive).
Try running CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt
You'll have to reboot in order to let it run, so answer "Yes" to the prompt when it appears.
See if it makes any corrections (it'll run in a DOS like box)

Then wait a few days. If the BSOD's return, run it again. This'll tell you if it's a repeating problem with the NTFS file system.

I have just run chkdsk. After getting stuck at 13% for an hour or so, it shot to 100% and rebooted back into windows. How do I see what has been changed? What do I have to do next?

Basically I have updated all the drivers listed on Asus website for UX302LG Windows 8.1 (64bit). I have also removed some of the utilities drivers such as AIcharger, Power4hybrid.

And (sorry!) I'm still late for work.

CHKDSK LogFile:
Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (Look in the "Source" column for "wininit" in Win7/8/8.1 - "winlogon" for XP).
Copy/paste the results into your next post.

Did you update the Intel Smart Connect Technology drivers from that page?
If so, there's an issue here that may explain somethings (and confuse others).

The download for the Intel Smart Connect Technology drivers does not include the ISCTD64.sys driver.
This may mean that an older version is left on your system (and maybe it needs to be removed).

Try these things:
First, download a fresh copy of the Intel Smart Connect Technology installer.
Then uninstall the current copy from your system
Then check to see if the ISCTD64.sys driver is removed (Located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers )
Then install the freshly downloaded copy.

Should the driver not be removed by the uninstaller, then try this (after reinstalling the latest version of the Intel Smart Connect Technology drivers):
1) Create a Restore Point using System Restore
2) Create a Repair disc (Recovery Drive in Win8.1):
Win 8 - Press "WIN" and "R" to open the Run dialog...type "RECDISC" (without the quotes) and press ENTER
Win 8.1 - Go to the Start Screen and type in "recoverydrive" (one word, without the quotes). That will start the recovery drive process. You will need a USB drive of at least 512 mB - and all data will be erased off of it. If copying the recovery partition the drive size will be much, much larger (16 - 32 gB drive required).
3) Test the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive to make sure that you can get to the System Restore entry when you boot from the disk/drive (you may also want to try actually using System Restore to make sure that it works)
4) Download this free program (Autoruns for Windows) and use it to disable any instances of ISCTD64.sys that are starting (DO NOT DELETE - only disable by removing the checkmark in the left hand column)
5) Check in Device Manager (to include showing hidden devices from the View menu item) and ensure that any instances of ISCTD64.sys are "Uninstalled" (DO NOT DISABLE THESE).
6) Check in the Services applet (services.msc) to be sure any instances of ISCTD64.sys are disabled.
7) EXPERIMENTAL STEP (only try if you're certain of your abilities - I have not tried this step myself). Search the registry (use regedit.exe) to locate any entries that have the driver name (ISCTD64.sys). Delete these keys (it's advisable to back them up first - but you've also backed up the entire registry when creating a System Restore point in step 1. Alternatively, you can set the values in these keys to DISABLED (but the "how" of this is beyond the scope of this).
8) Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename the ISCTD64.sys driver to ISCTD64.BAD .

In the event that the system doesn't boot:

1) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the Command Prompt option to rename ISCTD64.BAD to ISCTD64.sys
Code:
ren C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ISCTD64.BAD C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ISCTD64.sys
21) Boot from the System Repair disc/Recovery Drive and use the System Restore option to restore the system to a point before the changes were made.

Good luck!

If you remove the ISCTD64.sys driver manually, there's a chance that the BSOD's will stop.
If that's the case, then wait a couple of days before trying CHKDSK again.

Please run CHKDSK /R /F again and let us see the results.
This memory dump also blames the NTFS file system.

Interestingly, the new ISCTD.sys driver showed up in this memory dump.
I have to wonder about your hard drive (or the SSD).

I'd suggest trying another hard drive in order to see if that fixes the problems (I suspect it because it had problems with the last CHKDSK operation).
But that will mean opening up the laptop - are you able to do this?
If the new HDD doesn't fix the problems, then I'd try another SSD.
If that doesn't fix the problems, then I'd suspect the motherboard (and that may not be worth repairing).

If you're not able to open up the laptop and try another HDD, then I suggest trying another clean installation of Windows.
Make sure that you have a set of recovery disks for the system and then wipe the hard drive (delete all partitions) and reinstall Windows without any additional programs.

Then see if the BSOD's continue - if so, it's probably the hardware.
