I recently went to Windows 8 and have been enjoying the experience so far. However there are a few issues I need to get sorted out. This doesn't include any blue screens, or even any real changes to the OS at all, it is just immediate freezing.

I tend to get random freezing while using the computer about once or twice a day, I can't find any pattern to what may be causing this (I would imagine a driver but I'm unsure). However there is one situation that seems to not be connected to the other freezings and that is when I'm using Netflix online (Silverlight application), 95% of the time playback in a minimized window will work fine, now the other 5% plus every occasion I try to expand the video to full screen leads to a freeze up, where I will get a very loud one note sound and have no control over the computer beyond powering down. If anybody could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it. I have attached the zip file from the app in the sticky of this forum.

2) You are the 4th or 5th person complaining of freezes which has been missing the NVIDIA chipset co-processor driver (nForce system management driver):

"Coprocessor PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0AA3&SUBSYS_02BA1028&REV_B1\3&2411E6FE&0&1D The drivers for this device are not installed."

I can hack some stuff together for you if you need. Try to install the correct chipset drivers for your machine though.

I will go over the things listed in your post linked. I just went to update my NVidia drivers and according to NVidia control panel and the NVidia website, the drivers are up to date, should I try reinstalling?

nForce (chipset) and gForce (video drivers) are two totally separate things. We're dealing with the nForce here. You have to install the latest version offered by your hardware maker. Check their site for latest Win 7 nForce chipset drivers. Use the device manager to install after running it to extract.

Ah ok I should have caught that, nforce driver is downloading now.

Bios is as up to date as Dell is giving me unfortunately, latest update was 11/12/2009 for the Dell Studio 1440 I'm running.

That's cool then - it means there was nothing critical they had to fix since then, or they would have.

You'll probably run into issues installing, maybe even problems when using device manager.

If you have problems like that, right click on the problematic device in the device manager. Choose properties | Details tab.
Then change the dropdown to say Hardware ids. Copy/paste the results here. (Please do not use a screenshot for this. Then I have to manually type stuff myself off it instead lol.)

Here - I found all the info I need from your previous posts. I made this so it installs for you well. Download/extract to a folder.

Then open device manager. Right click on the one needing a driver. Update driver software. Browse my computer... Let me pick... Have disk .... Browse

Now find and double click on the .inf file in the extracted folder. Hit ok then next and it will be installed.

You just saved me a 200 mb download haha. It worked perfectly, went to the folder, selected to install the unsigned package anyways, installed successfully, no more driver messages in device manager. I'm going to finish that list you linked to but thank you very much for the awesome help!

You're welcome and good luck. That driver is from Microsoft's repository but just had different hardware ids other than yours, so that's why Windows Update never gave it to you and never would have.

Other than that, you might need to do some trickery to update your storage driver too. But see how you get on for now and let us know, I suppose.

Another troubleshooting thing you can do is to run DPC Latency checker >>>> DPC Latency Checker

Then copy some huge file or huge folder from one place to another and see if it bugs out. If it does, your storage driver needs some helping.
