SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (atikmdag.sys)

Hello!

I recently upgraded my hard drive+fresh install and since I've experienced a couple BSoD errors. I believe both times the errors occurred I was watching some plugin-forced html5 youtube videos. Also every BSoD error required me to manually power down the computer as it never restarted itself after collecting information.

I'm not really sure what could have went wrong. I've only installed windows, updates, and the ATI driver via 'auto detect and install tool.'

Any help would be great!

Hi wepr6 & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analyzed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-
Code:
0: kd> !analyze -v*******************************************************************************
*                                                                             *

*                                                                             *

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff800b539bdbb, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: ffffd00162906128, Exception Record Address
Arg4: ffffd00162905930, Context Record Address

---------

As we can see from the Dump files, the instruction was to Move the contents of RBX register while adding 6A8H to the value of RBX register and then storing it in RAX register. Note that both the values in the registers above is NULL or 0.

This is particularly caused by the Driver using Bad Pointers or the Drivers are bad for your ATI.

I would suggest you to remove the currently installed ATI Drivers using this **TOOL** and then install the LATEST driver from the System Manufacturer (If using Laptop) or from the ATI Website (BETA Drivers). If that does not work, try a driver which is few versions behind the current release or came with the Driver Installation Media with your ATI Device.

Let me know how it goes ^_^
